Bought this cool Toro mower from the golf course for $150.00, has a 3 cylinder Perkins diesel engine, three wheel hydraulic drive. Engine runs like a top, cutting reels are worn out so it's not going to make it as a lawn mower.
Thinking about installing the diesel engine into a small bloat then run the propeller hydraulically, should push the boat at 5 or 6 knots comfortably and idle down for trolling.
What are your thoughts, I think that an outboard type leg with the hydraulic motor and prop would be the easiest solution, this way the engine could be mounted in any location with just a bit of plumbing to the outboard hydraulic motor. Run a few pipe along the hull for cooling the engine.
Or install the engine as an inboard with a shaft through a stuffing box with a rudder for steering.
There are bio friendly hydraulic oils available so we're not polluting the lakes we're planning to fish.
