    Caught me a thief!

Well what an interesting day it has been.....Not everyday you get to catch someone trying to steal from you but that is exactly what happened to me today.

Recently we purchased a new piece of property with two homes on it. One I turned into my new shop until my new building is finished and the other we will live in once it is finished.

Well the former owner left behind 8 old boat trailers that I have been working to turn into scrap hauling trailers. They have been sitting to the side of the property since we bought it.

Anyway we happen to have some nice neighbors who watch the place when we are away along with their two boxers who patrol the grounds. I got a call from them this morning saying I needed to get out to the property. So I went that way and it was quite a scene when I arrived. There were two deputies there and they were standing near a small pickup truck that had one of my trailers hooked to it.

Well this guy decided to try and take one of the trailers but he failed to take one thing into account.....We have had roughly 27 feet of rain here in good ole indiana and the ground was nothing short of mush....Well this big brain got his truck stuck...buried in the mud up to the axles.....Then the dogs spotted him and they kept him in his truck until the police arrived.

By the time I arrived he was begging to be let go, mostly because he was on parole for robbing homes!

BEWARE - giant brain at work.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Reminds me of this one video I saw on tv where a guy broke his leg trying to kick in a door to rob a gas station
There's nothing more fun and more effective than hitting something repeatedly with a sledgehammer

And a nice bag of high end dog food or treats. Yeah, you should pretty much take dog treats every time you go to the property.

How many remember Jethro from Beverly Hillbillies? If Jethro turned to crime, this is something he would do with his "giant brain" and "sixth grade education".

I'm glad you caught the guy. But now a question--did he need the trailer for his boat, or was it going to the scrap yard?

Oh not to worry, those wonderful dogs get treats every time we are there.....When we are having lunch they are always in on the action...Today they are getting steaks when we get there. Those two boxers are going to be in heaven....Funny thing is that my wife and I have two boxers ourselves so when we finally get moved in out there, there will be a total of four boxers patrolling the area. What the guy didn't know was the fact that the two dogs that kept him in his truck won't even bite themselves but they sure know how to put on a good show!

My guess would be that the guy was taking the trailer to the scrap yard because it is less than a mile away from the property. The trailer is not plated or even registered at this time and only one of the tires was inflated. Without lots of work the trailers are pretty worthless but one of the guys that works with me is a genius when it comes to this stuff so they will make nice scrap haulers when they are ready.

You bet your socks that I pressed charges. The sad thing about it is the fact that I probably would have given him one of the worst trailers to haul into the yard for himself if he had stopped by and asked. I usually leave standard scrap alone and concentrate on my e-scrap and would have allowed him to haul one of them off.

It is amazing what asking is able to accomplish!

That said, I hope he had a yellow puddle under his feet and a look of terror on his face.

Thieves suck! Flat out. Being on parole, he will go where he belongs for a good amount of time. Of course some just don't care if they are in or out.

A friend of mine gave me an old car battery he had in his shed for years. I took the battery home and set it next to the house. A week later i went to load up my truck for a run to the yard and the battery was gone. I literally almost cried. It was like i had been violated. Thieves do suck. They suck hard. At least your guy got caught.

You've got some good deputies too. Once when I was living in Albuquerque (big police force) I had a burglar pinned down and called the cops, waited 45 minuets, it took so long I ended up letting the guy go and just saying if he comes back he"ll meet my smith&wesson. Two hours later an officer shows up "we got a call?"
