My UPS started dumping the computer and peripherals for a bit and I finally had had enough. I pulled the unit out and took it down to Batteries Plus to buy a new battery for the unit. As I am in line, the person who ultimately waited on me tries to upsell an insurance policy to an older woman who wanted a battery for something. I do not know if she bit or not, but when she left, he called me over to help me. I handed him the UPS and he took popped the back off and pulled a battery that had A BATTERIES PLUS label on it. He starts to tell me that it must be an old UPS and that the board in it probably won't protect me anymore.... I tell him that the Belkin UPS has the highest joule rating I could find and that I wanted a battery for it. He says that the board is old and.... At that point I realize I am getting the upsell routine. I said I was just looking to get the battery replaced and... But I didn't understand, the board was old and he was letting me know... Being the obtuse person I am, I asked if he was telling me the Batteries Pluss batery had rendered my UPS unusable? He told me I didn't understand and that because the UPS was old... I said "I get it, the Batteries Plus batteries no longet work in my old UPS"... He said that I still didn't understand and continued to upsell. I said I did, I understood him to say that I would be better off to go to BestBuy and buy a new UPS rather than buy a Batteries Plus battery. I was dead panning the whole time, but he was getting pissed. All I wanted was a friggin battery. He winds up pulling the new battery he had put in out and tells that I can go and that he is returning the UPS to me as it was. I told him that it was not as it was, he was trying to take my battery. This really tweeked him and he opened up the unit and put my battery back in.
I picked up the UPS and went to the Interstate Battery store where I buy my car batteries. They were very nice (as they always are) and sold me the battery I needed. I had gone to Batteries Plus for my UPS and security system batteries in the past because they were convenient and easy and I did not know Interstate sold drycell batteries. I will not be going back to Batteries Plus.
