In a July 18 filing with the World Trade Organization (WTO), China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection said recovered mixed paper – as well as recycled PET, PE, PVC and PS, textiles and vanadium slag – would be banned from import into the country later this year.
What will happen to shredder waste? Will China stop buying the fluff? A scrap yard around here pays more for "clean sheet iron" then sheet iron. I feel this is only the beginning of what they will not import due to "trash".

It might be part of the political game with a 20% tariff proposed on Chinese metal imported into the U.S. and banning Chinese ships from loading metal at U.S. coasts and going to International Waters to refine it before returning it to the U.S. If these two changes take place, China will not be able to afford the "fluff".
Give back more to this world than we take.

The recycling branch of the China NonFerrous Metals Industry Association said on Tuesday that it had received a notice that at the end of 2018 imports of scrap metal including wire, motors and bulk scrap metal will be prohibited, according to a copy of an informal Association message sent to members of its WeChat group reviewed by Reuters.

No it is not a thing. Its a reference to a large shell game. Making it look like something was manufactured in the US when it was not.
When I was driving truck I would deliver various steel products. At one time I was to deliver some steel I beams to a customer and on the paper work it specified that the I beams could not come from the XYZ company. So I went to where the pick up was and saw that the I beams had tags noting they were manufactured by the XYZ company. The tags were removed prior to loading and the paperwork reflected it the I beams were manufactured by the RTS company.
Same product but the paperwork lies. Mike

Well things are changing at the scrapyards around here, small electric motors are now just copper content, no longer can cord ends be copper content (now shred) and coax back to shred feed as well! I haven't tried to sell other low value items like ballasts or Christmas lights in awhile I think they will all be shred food again...
