    Paper or plastic bag fee?

How many of you have a plastic bag ban or a fee charged to you to get a bag when you are shopping? If I were to get a quart of beer would they charge me a bag fee for the brown bag? And if you lived in a deposit state you would have to pay the deposit get taxed on it in California and then get the extra $.05 - $.10 cent charge for the bag! I am glad we don't have that around here!

We don't have a fee. But we shop at Marianos a lot and bring out own reusable cloth bags. They give you a 5 cent discount per bag up to 25 cents. Sure it's only gonna save you a max of 12.50 a year if you shop once a week, but it's incentive to bring your own bags.

I try to remember to bring my own bags. Usually successful. There's no charge for bags at any store I know of around here. Perhaps Aldi does, but I haven't been back to one of those since they opened the first one around here and they wanted to charge me a quarter for a cart.
I left and have never returned.

Bag bans and fees had some success on the West Coast but most states that have since initiated those rulings against plastic films have either seen them die in legislature or had them beaten back in repeals. The state retail lobbies hold a lot of sway with the City Fathers and Mothers and the bag manufacturers are hardly underrepresented. If the local supermarkets and Wal-Marts don't support it, which they don't, these things will fail nearly each and every time.

Never heard of a paper bag tax/fee, though.

It all comes down to government taxation.
Over in Philadelphia ( 4.5 hour drive from my house ) they have a $0.03 tax, per ounce, on all "sugary drinks" - which resulted in a huge tax revenue for the city. From what I hear other areas want to implement the tax to take more money from their residence ... err I mean 'encourage healthy diet choices' !

Your loss, since they have really good prices.

Aldi charges for bags to keep food costs down, and to minimize giving out excess bags that'll usually get thrown out.

The quarter for the cart is a deposit. You get it back when you return the cart to the cart return area.
That is done to keep from wasting labor on a cart fetcher, and it keeps the number of carts left out in the lot down.
The rare time a cart is left out in the lot, another customer usually takes it back to the cart return to get the quarter back.

Any company that wants to be more efficient, needs to take a hard look at the German companies Aldi and Lidl.

No no beverage sugar tax, or bag fees or deposits here yet, but give California time to have AZ follow them

Your "wasting labor on a cart fetcher" is my "another job for someone who desperately needs one"
