On 9/11 I was taking my promotional exam for Fire Captain, after I finished I left the classroom and found everyone gathered around the tv. We knew the loss of firefighters was going to be significant. I rushed home and called my wife and told her to get home right now. The second call was to my mentor, a veteran Fire Captain, a salty man that was full of knowledge and wisdom, a Navy Vet and still served in the Coast Guard Reserves. I asked him what were we going to do. He said make sure your family is safe and then we are going to do our job but be ready to fight in the streets. I will never forget 9/11, I'm still doing my job and I will always be prepared to fight in the streets to make sure my family is safe.
