The US suffered a devastating attack on its way of life. Sixteen years later, we pause to reflect and remember the lives lost and the tears shed.

Yet even in those darkest of times, heroes emerged. An attack that sought to tear us apart instead brought us together.

Our response to that tragedy of 9/11 revealed the strength of our national character. From the depths of despair, we found courage and hope. Yet we must stay vigilant and never forget what we and all other nations learned that day:

Freedom is not free.

No offense taken. As a former firefighter that had the privalage of hanging out with the late FDNY Captain Timothy Stackpole (LODD 9/11/2001) as he recovered from an earlier near fatal fire ground incident, I can tell you that there are many of us that will "Never Forget".

FYI - I have used 2 features on the forum today that I think many of us should consider.

The towers fell. My city is gone. WTC always meant "home" when flying into Kennedy, LaGuardia or Newark.

The day of the attack, my wife called me very frightened. I told her that everything would be ok, but our world would never be the same again and that we had lived in the best of times the world had ever known. She has told that story quite a few times and added that sadly I was right.

I used to wonder how my grandfather could hate the Japs 40 years after the attack on Pearl Harbor. I now understand.

September 11, 2001 was actually the day the music died.

Sad fact they don't even mention it in schools on the anniversary. My son said in the past they had a moment of silence after the pledge of allegiance, but the last two years nothing. You would think a history, economics or government teacher would stray from there lesson plan to give insight on what happened this day!

What a sad state we are in. People have forgotten and infortunately, they won't remember until something bad happens again.
