What is Scrap Car Removal

I got 150$ for a Hyundai Elantra in October prices have gone down drastically since I sold a Ford F-150 3 yrs ago for 250. The Elantra was a complete car and the ford had no motor, tranny or rear end. Body was flawless maybe that why he gave so much for it.

The first years of picking up scrap cars was a service I and may others offered free of charge, the tow company's still charge to haul one away while some guys are out there burning fuel hunting them down then dish out cash for a wreck. Times change.

When we had the yard in BC pick up was a free service, I was the only game in town. After we moved to Manitoba I had to pay for scrap cars, did one farm clean up that was free.

In fact the farm clean up was a good deal the owner asked if I could have it cleaned uo within a certain time period, said sure. Phoned Jack and had him come out with the semi and loader, he hauled about five loads from the farm and paid me cash. The only finger I lifted was to dial Jacks number.

Couple of months later the multi million dollar owner asked me if I did alright on the job, just smiled and said yeah I did ok on it and thanks for the job.

He later asked me to come and work at one of his company's and I turned him down. The pay was good with a decent daily per diem - living out allowance.

The guys who reduce the "I'll get to that project eventually" pile back down to a manageable size while also making you some money.

Junk cars that are of no use for the owner have been bought by the scrap removal experts and then they modify those in their own design or you can say business of buying scrap cars

Its handy knowing somebody who does scrap car removal. I have bought a car off them so i can fix it up. I find that sellers will sell me a car far cheaper than what its really worth "because the guy said he'd only give me $100 for it". So i get to buy it for $150-200.
. Mostly Audis, its a very steep learning curve for me & to get a Audi up to reasonable selling condition pretty much involves fixing the same 12 things on every one of them. Roof liner replaced, PCV system replacement, fix the heater box flaps, on 1.8 engines the oil pickup filter, transmission problems is 1 of 5 things. Cambelt.
Audi parts are cheap if its over 10 years old.
Lithuania has a whole industry in buying ex Germany cars & then repairing & selling them on.
So im finding im looking there for good new parts & its about a 5 days from ordering a part till its arrival in NewZealand.
Anything comming from China takes 3-4 weeks, but the postage is almost free & the long term quality is debatable.

I find American parts are always good quality @ good prices, but expensive postage to NZ. We are finding ways around this though. Like theres 'Free shipping inside the USA' so we get it shipped for free to a consolidating company & they ship it all as one consignment to NZ.

You have to be quick because the car removal guys can get, shift & sell a car in a hour & you are competing with that time.

In my area.
Some scrap car removals pack shipping containers with 'cores' & send them to 'I dont know where'.
Toyotas get shipped whole if they are in reasonable condition. Vans & pickups are sought after. If the running gear parts are what they want, then they get picked off the vehicle & sold.
Nissans are also sought after, LD28 engines, gearboxes & transaxles. Terrano 4WD's etc.

Mitzis, Hondas, Subarus & such just get crushed & shredded.

Most of this stuffs going to the Middle east. Theres good youtube videos of the dismantling factorys.
In essence almost the same as the manufacturing plant itself. Check, dismantle, recheck, scrap, recondition or use 'as is' to produce a good vehicle for their market.
The panels dont even have to be the same colour... Its bought as a tool, not as as something to impress the neighbours.

Knowledge of the parts, their part numbers & who wants what & how quick you can churn it over is what makes you the $$.

Has anyone here done a full tear down on a scrap car. Taking out all wire, valuable components etc? If you have time (which I do) is it worth it for more money? Having said that I guess only I can answer that question....lol Anyone done a full tear down?

I think there have been a few posts over the years on them.

Tater had quite a few, same with Cory an a couple others. I could be getting everybody all mixed up though. It's been a long time since I've seen a in depth post on car scrapping. Most the folks I know of who did it, have either retired from the forums, moved on, etc etc.

I know people still buy them of course an resell them. See the ads all the time between my sandbar an Va. Not as many as a few years ago but enough to know people still buy them. Tho I think those people are looking for easy flip an turns, with little work involved. I don't think they are the kind of folks who will scrap a car, or part it out. Lots of people like to cherry pick the easy stuff. Whether curbco or a honda that needs a new battery.

May have to dive into the forums. Any info is likely buried, but then...I've not been around most this past summer an spring, so maybe some new info is out there I've yet to see.

Removing all the waste material which is of no use. You can do this on your own and also with the help of junk removal experts.
