To any who may read this..It will likely be long, an it won't have anything to do with scrapping. What else is new with one my posts eh?
Moving on...
Fate leads him who follows it, and drags him who resist. - Plutarch
Early this evening I picked the wife up at work, around 8ish. I know I shared with my cooler pullers, but not sure about the rest of you folks. Me an the wife moved towards the end of last year. Bought a new(er) to us house. A little further away from everything on the sandbar. Now we live on the beach and on a wildlife refuge. Back to my tale. As I said I picked the wife up, an we had a good drive a head of us, a whopping 30 minutes or so. So we set off on our journey home. We crossed over the big bridge, then the other big bridge(no river or grandma

) The road to the house is a 2 lane highway. 60 mph speed limit. No lights as I said above we now live on the wildlife refuge. As we got closer to home, about 5 minutes out or so, we come upon the stretch of road where there are a couple houses on the one side.
As we get closer, I'm seeing a ton of debris in the middle of the road. So I slow down, thinking.."eh, bear knocked someones trashcan over, that sucks" till I notice the car smoking an crunched into the guard rail on the opposite side of the road. Seeing this, I decide to use my brain an look to the right. Another car, all wrecked to hell an back. Car was on the edge of one of our canals..driver side of course. Seeing all this I yell at the wife to call 911 as I'm flipping a uturn to so I can pull of safely, an then I dash out of the car. I see a young fella, wandering from his car to the road(he was the one whose car went into the guard rail. Ask if he's ok, he says he thinks so. Go to check on the other car, an find a lady all banged up. Bleeding, etc etc. Not a pretty image, an one I'm sure will stay with me for a good bit.
At this point there is a little traffic backed up. Folks are being good about it as it's a nasty wreck. Parts of both cars all over the road, glass, tires, battery, lights, etc. The emergancy folks show up( Much respect to Dare County Sheriffs, Manns Harbor Fire Dept, NC State Troopers, an I belive it was Dare County EMTs. Can't thank these fellas enough. Quick response an knew how to do their jobs.) an take over. The kid turned out to be not injured. Someone was looking out for him that's for sure. Front wheel of his vehicle was lying flat an under his driver seat under the car, battery was ripped out on impact along with most of his front end. He was in shock as anyone in such a situation would be I reckon. Thankfully though he was unharmed physically. My wife was talking with his parents on the phone to assure them he was ok. Can't imagine he was more then 21 if that. The other person wasn't as lucky sadly. She had passed away when the two cars hit head on. She was married judging by the wedding ring she had on.
Why am I posting this? I dunno. Shock? Needing to get it out of my system? a reminder to not text an drive? or make sure your properly rested before driving? I'm not even sure why. Me an another fellow who lived near by checked her pulse before the EMTs got there. Not fun, not fun at all to be that person doing that. Nothing I ever want to do again. There is a reason I do what I do for a living an why I'm not a EMT.
Fate...it's a funny thing. Fate had me behind these folks, an not very far either. Fate had me show up right after the accident so me an the wife could do what we could to help. Fate...it's a heavy word when you think about it. Right place, right time..it will have a deeper meaning to me after tonight. Same with the simple little four letter word..Fate. It's crossed my mind more then once, this could've easily been me an my wife. I'm saddened a young man is now traumatized if not for life, for a good long time. I'm even more sad an upset someone has to be told his wife died, an he now has to bury her. The lady crossed over her line an hit the young man head on. Could've been a medical emergency for all we know as of now. Both cars got spun, an completely totaled. When we were leaving, we thanked the officer we had been talking to, an he did something I thought was strange...he thanked us. Didn't do it for thanks, or praise, did it cause it was the right thing to do. If it was my wife or kid in a wreck like that, I would want/hope someone would stop to help.
Well...I told you this post would be long. I should've warned it wasn't going to be a normal post by me. No goats. No jokes. An only a couple of quotes. If you read this far, thanks for reading. If you didn't....get someone to read you the cliffnotes version. Ok, so maybe I got one joke.
Be safe out there folks. The next day is never promised, an it can be taken at anytime. Don't text an drive, make sure your rested before you go driving long distances, dark roads, etc. It could just as easily been one of my loved ones, or yours this evening. It will be a night I won't forget for a very long time. If you see an accident, stop an help. You just might be saving someones life, or keeping them from further harm.
Well now that I've made everyone all sad, I reckon it's time to wrap this up.
Thanks for listening.
