You gotta love the CL ads for above ground pools. I've seen many like the one below.

Free pool, pump, filter and deck!!!
You will need a truck a trailer and a friend. Serious inquiries only.
Be prepared to remove all of it. Also bring enough dirt to fill the hole back in. You will also be required to seed the ground and put down straw.
We want the yard to look like a pool was never there. If you cannot meet the above requirements, don't waste my time.

Thanks for the Craigslist link, it's always interesting, educational or entertainment.

Here's a couple of New Zealand versions

I think it's hilarious when people want free/slave labor.

"Work for 2 hours for $10 worth of scrap metal". LOL

Well ... it is an opportunity. Not a good opportunity but an opportunity.

Somebody like that needs time to figure things out for themselves. You could go down, look the job over, then leave your business card.

They might give you a call after they find out that nobody is going to do that job for free.

It sounds to me like the people have a sizable load and just want it hauled away by a professional scrapper and not some kid in a Honda hatchback or a crackhead cutting out the copper and making a mess. Everybody reads different things with those advertisements depending on their life experiences. It could also be worded that way to weed out people that would get offended by the tone of the ad for whatever reason (maybe directed at the last guy who showed up for a load). Having said that most people have no clue that the load they offer is worth just a few bucks and nobody is going to bend over backwards to get it except maybe a crackhead.

The sense of entitlement that people have now reminds me of the old stories told by elders who had it tough back in the day. For a greatly exaggerated version of how tough it was, watch this video of Dana Carvey (Saturday Night Live) doing his Grump Old Man character.
