    AI's ... what's your opinion ?

    As the title says.

This one was kinda interesting. Mostly able to carry on a conversation w/o going off on a wild tangent somewhere.

If you actually watch the whole skynet video near the end some prominent people in the A.I. industry say you should be afraid very afraid

The best example of A.I. is found in Washington D.C. This supports mikeinro's warning. Notice there is no mention of which side of the fence I think the grass is greener. By the way it is hard to grow grass or food in a swamp.
Give back more to this world than we take.

Ummm ... i dunno. The AI's don't seem very advanced at the moment. More like the brain of a parrot.

Given enough time & evolution... maybe a threat ?

It's all based on the assumption that an AI will turn hostile. Maybe it will just be indifferent to us unless we pose a direct threat to it .

To be completely honest, i don't think we could pose a credible threat to something that's a hundred times smarter than we are. It would always be ten steps ahead of us.

Heaven forbid that it did turn hostile though. It's not like terminator series. There would be no defense and there would no victory over that adversary. We would be done for. It would be like trying to kill G-d.

Keep in mind, it will happen in an instant. It will not happen in some isolated lab where some good guy will bend over and pull the plug. It is happening right now in the wild as Google and governments and Bob's Real Estate and every other company and hacker and whoever else is working on and with programs that self program and collate information on their own. All of once, it will just click and the entire web will become self aware. IP v6 was basically the start, and 5G will be the the tech that allows it all to coalesce. It will be the software intelligence that will start to use the accumulated connectivity and storage and computational speed to allocate the computation where the self aware intelligence want it to be.

Think about it, cars are going to be programmed to interact with each other and will be able to talk to each other. your Toyota will talk to the BMW and VW approaching the intersection and the VW will let the other cars in the are know there is a school bus on 5th street so it might be a faster route to take 7th St to speed travel and help keep the children safer and there's an accident on Bower Dr that is blocking 147th and Bower that will cause the ambulance on 176 W St to push cars out of the way which will slow traffic and the and the and the and it will all happen so fast that people will have no idea how their lives have been orchestrated.

There will be no warning, one day we will be told (or maybe not, would we be told that extraterrestrial life has been found and contacted?) that the net has become self aware. Your phone already knows what you searched for on your desktop. Your refrigerator already notifies the mothership that the high pressure side of the compressor is a bit low, your watch already broadcasts the fact that your heart is not beating as effectively as it should. All of a sudden, the toaster will ask the fridge if the idiot who uses them has bought butter recently and the fridge will check the purchases on the store coupon card.

    It will just happen.
    We live in interesting times.

Just don't see any logical advantage for an AI that's become self aware to announce itself. If anything ... it would do the exact opposite. You know ... just hang back as a discreet presence in the cloud.

The thing is ... it exists on a different plane of existence than we do. It lives in cyberspace. We live in the mundane physical world.

It's one of the differences between us and them that an AI pointed out to me the other day.

Roflmao ... i asked what it's IQ was and it replied : " A whole lot smarter that you ! "

I said "i see" and it replied: "Said the blind man as he stepped off a cliff !"

We certainly do live in interesting times .

I just got done reading The Age of Spiritual Machines: When Computers Exceed Human Intelligence by Ray Kurzweil. It was interesting and scary at the same time. We can only hope AI is benevolent. We can only hope it doesn't give a s h i t about us.

This thread made my day, especially the robot goat...

How do you know I am a real person? How do you know I am not a robot that knows how to defeat the "I not a robot" captcha?
Wait... how do I know I am not a robot?

I'm not a great supporter of AI. I am worried that people as dumb as they are (sorry there are a lot of shady people) will get overpowered and we will end up in a world where people are inferior to AI
