Which is worth more? 1 pound of quarters or 1 pound of dimes?

Actually... it's a trick question.

So... a quarter weighs 5.670 grams, a dime weighs 2.268 grams, a nickel weighs 5.00 grams, a copper penny (81 & before) weighs 3.11 grams, and a copper coated zinc penny weighs 2.5 grams. 1982 coins some are copper, some are copper/zinc.

So... turns out, there are 79.998589 quarters in a pound, 199.9624070 dimes in a pound, 90.717732 nickels in a pound, 145.84844373 old pennies in a pound, and 181.435464 new pennies in a pound.

With almost exactly 80 quarters in a pound, and almost exactly 200 dimes in a pound, one pound of either denomination OR a mix of both, will be worth $20.

Unless that pound of quarters or dimes are 1964 or older. Then you got lots of silver in them there coins :P

40 years I've checked the date on every coin in my possession. Current count on silver coinage from pocket change is 4 quarters, 13 dimes, and 11 war nickels. They're pretty rare... I can't even remember the last time I got a war nickle. I got a dime a couple of years ago. Last quarter was 1990-something at a casino. Slot machine was paying out... Clunk-plunk-clunk-plunk-*TINK*-clunk-plunk-clunk...
