Just curious, what do you call your scrap from your part of the world?

Eg here in aust we have light gauge (roofing tin, white goods ect...) and i think I've worked out that's what some people call shred..

    Here in Aust we have

    Light Gauge
    Heavy Gauge
    Domstic ally
    Extruded Ally
    Irony Ally
Brass (all one catagory , we break down gunmetal, ally bronze ect in the yard but one price across the board)
    Copper pipe tank and sheet

    wire
    bright and shiny
pvc 42% (covered wire, household wiring) goes lower for ext leads ect
    pvc 65%
    pvc 83% (earth cables ect)

    ally copper rads
    brass copper rads
    ally rads

thats a very basic list, goes down further and gets way more picky.

anybody spot anything familar? lets mix and match guys!!

    In New Zealand we have

Copper #1. Its 'Berry Copper' for some reason. It makes a scrap metallers heart throb.
    Copper #2 Varnished wire
Copper Dom. ( Domestic ) everything else Copper

Ali ( its spelt ' Ali ' here, lol )
    Ali ex
    Ali cast
    Ali dom
    Ali irony
    Ali cans

    Steel lightgauge
HMS. ( Heavy Metal in Size, or is it Heavy Melting Steel ? )

Theres no 'Shred' here. Its too far away to be exporting rubbish mixed with metal

And escrap...the prices here would make you cry.
And petrol ( not ' Gas ' ) the prices here would make you gasp, and fume.

    HMS heavy metal scrap?
im not too far away across the drink and fuel prices here are killing us atm.
at least you guys buy escrap, im sneaking it in with light gauge atm cos in the whole state i think theres only one or 2 buyers far away from me
    otherwise you can 'donate it'

we have 'tarnished wire' with the green on it and 'varnished' wire we class as burnt because of the enamel coating. theres a $1 kg difference between varn and tarn.
then the pvc in various grades. Ali seems to be the same..

It varies here in the states. I don't really understand steel because i haven't done it yet. I think it breaks down to these categories in my area.

    Cast Iron prepared

    Cast Iron unprepared

    Steel prepared

    Steel unprepared

Then there are categories for complete cars, incomplete cars, mixed iron, light iron, and motor blocks.

Insulated copper wire is simpler to understand:

High grade: is generally " In the wall wire " like romex & cable.

Mid grade: Is generally what you use to plug into the wall.

Low grade: Is generally computer wire. Things like ribbon cables and cords that plug into peripherals like a monitor, printer, keyboard, and so on.

    Copper is pretty straightforward:

Bare bright: Is shiny stripped copper wire at least the thickness of a paper clip ( 16 ga.)

#1 copper : Is any kind of tarnished copper. ( No other contaminants aside from oxidation )

#2 copper: is copper that's contaminated with oil, varnish, paint, solder, & tin coated copper wire that's been stripped.

There are a couple of other categories but most of what i see falls into the above three categories.

    Ali is pretty straightforward:

    Extruded

    Cast

    Sheet

    Irony aluminum

Not much going in in the way of Ewaste buyers in this area. I ship to a buyer that's partway across the country.

Gas has been holding steady here at 2.699 USD / gal . since early September. It's currently 2.389 / gal. in the city. It holds steady at about 5.00 $/gal.on the offshore islands.

Yep, its all in the pronunciation....

Years ago i sold some metal to a guy who owned his own scrapyard.
    Boy could he swear.
Nothing to be offended of, just his way of talking included a lot of well known & some not so well known, and probably some original, swear words.
He actually was amazing to listen too, he had the whole swearing thing down to a art, he could construct a whole meaningfull sentence out of just swear words, even just one swear word, just pronounced differently from each other.
"Well f me, f ing f it, the f ers f ing well f ed, f kn 'elp me f the f er inna f en f ed pile"

    RIP Johnny scrapman
