Riots in Cities

Anyone here in an area where riots and looting are happening? Has that affected your sense of security? DO you go to the destroyed areas in the hope of finding curbco or do you avoid those areas? Has any of the violence spilled over into your neighborhood? Have you changed your patterns of life to accommodate rioters? I am fortunate that thus far I have not encountered any riots, but it looks like it could be something that could spread everywhere, so....

I live in a very small town in SW PA not likely to see any rioting here. However BLM visited a larger town about 25 miles from here and said they were going to visit us since we had a national memorial where flight 93 crashed well needless to say they didnt show when a bunch of country folk decided to show up at entrance. Let me say that I am for peaceful protest but this looting and burning is out of control.

I go threw the ghetto to a scrap yard and a pallet place on the south side of Chicago. Yes they looted the 2 cell phone shops, pawn shop, liquor store, auto zone, walgreens, and smashed up a night club and sea food place on 147th and Halsted. I wouldnt curb shop in that area even if it wasnt for rioting. Its a **** hole over there and now its even worse cause of these idoits. In homewood, there was a blm march down halsted to chicago and the city barricaded the entrances with snow plows and cement blocks. theres a menards, target, jewel osco, home depot, and on the other side is walmart, kohls, mcdonalds and some small businesses and it was all shut down for 4 days after the march. Then they shut it down again 2 weeks ago durring a march that was ganna be on the Eway so they closed off all the exit ramps in the area and it was a mess. Cops were sitting at the commercial warehouse zone 5 miles from homewood when i was out scrapping, so i said f this and went home for the day.

Havent seen anything near me yet at all. Closest stuff to me has been like an hour away in Philly. It WAS bad there last time it was happening, think everything has gone quiet/peaceful now.

Everything is going to be fine, the media just is creating fear and division as always for ratings and such....

I've noticed that as well. Ratings do = profit but i think it goes deeper than that.

Most of the newspaper outlets here in Maine are slanted center left. They're using the BLM / race issue to energize their political base. They'll most likely kick those protesting for racial justice to the curb after they have served their purpose in November.

The other thing is that there is a certain fifth column element that may well be in play. They're very good at turning peaceful protests into riots. Those guys have their own agenda as well. Sometimes they do it just for fun. Sometimes it's for personal gain. Sometimes it's for the purpose of tearing down corrupt institutions.

What does have me concerned is that property sales have surged with wealthy urban refugees fleeing the pandemic. The civil unrest in the cities might be a secondary concern for them as well. Not particularly enthused about that but i would do the same if i were in their situation. We're also seeing a significant influx of tourists that are coming to stay with us for a week or two. The hotels have shut down, but there are over 300 air B&B's on this island alone.

I put in an order for a real old fashioned Maine winter with brutal cold and tons of snow.

Grrrrr ... that will will cool their jets and put an end to all of this foolishness in a hurry.

I may have told you before, but my wife is from Maine. Her uncle owned the Airline Motel where the Airline meets Rt1 up by the Canadian border.

It sounds like you guys have built a really good life for yourselves down in Florida. My eldest son is doing well down in South Carolina. Even has a fully stocked RV as a " Bug Out " option in the event of a hurricane or some other kind of disaster.

You know .... our prodigal sons and daughters are always welcome to come home in a time of need.

We had a pretty easy winter here too.

If everything goes well ... our new generator should be delivered over the next few days. It seems like we placed the order just in time. A few days later ... they went on indefinite backorder. Kinda had me worried till the supplier sent me a tracking number and i could see that it's well on it's way.

I thought what i would do is hit the transfer switch and run on generator power for a day or so just to test it out ahead of time. We shifted into the fall weather pattern a couple of days ago so we all know what's coming.

Thank you, that is very kind. We seem to be in a spot that seems to be immune from hurricanes. We have been the windshield a few times, but so far, we haven't been the bug. I'm not settin' the world on fire, but I am happy and having a good time. I own my home and am looking to coast for the next few years. Our plan is to move up to a more rural part of the country in a few years when we decide to wind down. I am sick of hearing the traffic and not being able to see the stars.

It's a still fairly good quality of life here in the rural parts of Maine ... albeit ... hella cold in the winter. Not so bad here on the coast, but i spent one winter going to school in a college town up by the Canadian border. That one was quite memorable.

There was an interesting article in The Bangor Daily News a few days ago.

My guess would be that there may be more than a few with " Buyer's Remorse" after they've spent a winter or two there but a Maine girl is a hearty breed.

A long time ago, I was maybe 20ish, I got mono. Sick as a dog. Basically the routine involved me drinking the room temp water on the nightstand (my throat could not tolerate cold water), taking the dose of codeine cough medicine, go downstairs to fill a glass of water to drink when I woke up and going back upstairs to go back to sleep. It blew a hole in the drop ceiling and sprayed chicken soup all over.... ALL OVER! You would be very surprised the size of the chunks that can fit through that little hole under pressure! I filled my glass of water and went back upstairs and back to sleep for another four hours.

I'm not saying the way the Chinese handled the protest at Tiananmen Square was right or wrong, but it sure as hell was effective.

A government murdering its own citizens in its' streets may work in China, but this is America and I dont think that'll fly here.... at least hopefully not
