    Freon Recovery Cerification

We could dedicate this thread to assist those who have chosen to become EPA certified via an online course.

The scrap forum has a couple of members already certified, then we have others familiar with handling Freon all of whom would assist with learning.

A whole list to choose from, Epa Certification Online Course.

I think someone around here who paid for that freon doc a while ago, and actually got it, mentioned they have they still have the document laying around somewhere (I think its just a PDF). Might be able to source the document and at least get it to the people who paid for it and never received it.... although then the admin is just getting money for nothing so idk.

That RAG admin offered wasn't worth the paper it was written on and the contents thereof are of no benefit to those who sign up for an actual online course.

This thread is intended to assist with solving a problematic test question from a certified source.

Going forward would you please stay on topic.

Definitely an interesting topic. I recently got my EPA 608 type I certification online about 3ish months ago through Mainstream Engineering. The online one I did was broken down into 2 open book test sections: general information and type I information. Each section was 25 multiple choice questions. You needed to score an 85% in each section to pass. Their study guide was informative, but I would recommend you use a set of quizlet flash cards to study for the test.

Here's the catch with the online tests: You can only take them if you intend to get type I certified and that's it. To the best of my knowledge they don't have online tests for anything beyond type I.

Type I certification covers kitchen appliances and window AC's, pretty much everything with 5 pounds of freon in it or less. For me, type I is probably all I'll get since I'm looking to add window air conditioner recycling and other appliance recycling to my list of services offered.

If you intend to work on anything bigger you'll need to get type II and type III certified (also called universal certification). What I found out is that if you get type I certified online and down the road you want to get type II or type III certified you'll have to retake the tests in person through a proctored exam.

The other section I might be getting soon is the EPA 609 (for vehicle air conditioner systems). I've been putting it off since I started college again, but hopefully I'll get that one buckled down in the next few months.

406Refining, Thank you for your input, very informative.

The Province I currently live in have no one evacuating freon from the landfills, the suits are in violation of their own regulations and laws, years ago when I had learned of this situation wanted ti become certified to be able to service the eight landfills with in driving distance.

In Canada Mopia handles the certification, the person I spoke with on the phone was only interested in having a whistle blower to turn in offenders so they could go after collecting fines.

I decided not to pursue certification but have encouraged a couple of the young natives to take the course then force the landfills into evacuating appliances and such instead of just pushing them into the scrap pile.

Instead of looking after the Elephant in the room the Rural Municipality's choose to have each landfill custodian take a two week course with an exam to become certified. By doing this they have skirted care and control.

Each landfill does have a sign posted that says freon must be removed before entering the landfill site but what their missing is that each appliance previously evacuated must visibly display the technicians certificate number.

I would love to see each of these landfill sites forced into compliance.
