**Why should you read the following?? It is heartfelt from me to any of you who have physical ailments that can be helped by changes in their lifestyle. Below is a shorten story of me and how I have improved my life and I hope you or a loved one will benefit. Mike**
Many will not know me so here's a bit of my history. Current age 68 and a retired USMC GySgt(retired 1997). I had stage 4 kidney failure and went on dialysis in 2007. I was able to do home dialysis ,not fun and it was every night all night. I was restricted to lifting no more than 20 lbs. I'm not a go to the gym or rehab type guy I want to do physical work. So I started recycling metals by buying electric motors from my next door neighbor who was recycling HVAC units. These motors weigh about 10 lbs. I would break them down and separate the metals and made a little money. More importantly I got stronger and had a purpose. I went on to recycling
ewaste and learning how to test and sell compentents for over scrap value. This ewaste business worked well for me for a while.
June 2012 I received a kidney transplant and that was long recovery and there are many drugs with many side effects. My kidney disease was caused by IgA not diabetes related. I had been diagnosed a diabetic about 1999. I was surprised that the kidney failure was not related to diabetes or so I was told at the time. My kidney doctor at the time told me "we don't know what causes IgA". (I believe that IgA and other immune disorders are caused by Metabolic Syndrome but I will not cover this here today)
I tried every diet I thought might help and even while still on active duty I followed the suggestions of the Navy doctors, ran 3-7 miles 3-6 days a week. I was just able to stay long enough to retire. After the Marines I gained over a hundred pounds because I was tired of being on a diet and I did not run anywhere. I finally was diagnosed a diabetic and really did try to loose weight and worked a physical job. Still at the time of my going onto dialysis I weighed close to if not over 300lbs. Of course much of that weight was water that was not being removed by my damaged but I was certainly obese from just the excess fat.
Fast forward to May 2018 I weigh nearly 260 lbs and am very tired of all the doctors, nurses, medications and guilt feeling I hold for causing my own problems. I began the KETO diet as a lifestyle not as loose weight temporarily diet like all the others. Things changed quickly for me for the better in so many ways. The biggest is my blood sugar dropped while taking less and less diabetes medications. Blood pressure meds were also reduced. Keep in mind I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and diabetes more than 20 years ago so the damage done to my body is extensive and I may have to stay on some drugs for both for the rest of my life. Two of the drugs I take for anti-rejection of the transplanted kidney cause high blood sugar. Oh happy day, well one of the other ones I was taking gave me skin cancer.
For the last three years I have been studying all things having to do with Metabolic Syndrome which encompasses diabetes, high blood pressure etc. I like many others have suffered from the consequences of following the dietary recommendations of our government and most of the medical societies. Below is a fabulous movie that really covers the history and fallout of these ill conceived food standards.
If you've gotten this far you are a gluten for punishment so why not take an hour an half out of your life watch this movie and see if it makes sense to you. I have seen the benefits myself and am open to pm's if you have questions. As always 73, Mike
PS Oh by the way my weight this morning is 195 lbs and am 5' 11" and last A1C was 6.2 still not at my personal goal. One more thing I started riding motorcycles at the age of 66. M
