You don't require a accurate time piece.
I was thinking about the gold pocket watch the gave my grandfather when he retired from the granite quarry. It was a hard life a hundred years ago. The standard work week back then was ten hours a day M-F and half a day on Saturday. Sunday was a day of rest and then it's right back it on Monday.

All of your time and energy went into your job. It didn't leave much for family and generally enjoying life.

At the end of forty years of the same old grind they hand you a watch.

    Now you have time.

    Quote CD:

I have learned that humans don't get along any better with each other then the many critters I have watched and studied around the yard.

A little hint is a bit like I said above. Humans don't get along any better then many animals do. That is because of instinct and surroundings.

Hills response: I tend to agree. I like to visit with the neighbors that live in the woods out behind the house every so often. Sometimes they come to visit me in the middle of the night. (Deer are wicked nosy. They come up and look in the windows when you are asleep at night but that's another story.)

Point being ... you can learn an awful lot about the world of man by going for a walk in the woods and being observant. There's natural law and there's a natural order of things. It's one great big competition. Understand that ... and you understand a lot about how society works.

You've mentioned anger & hatred in many of your posts CD but you don't understand the WHY. Think about it. Increasing numbers of people competing for fewer and fewer resources ? Folks are bound to be stressed out.

Everything is chill when resources are plentiful. Even an apex predator like a grizzly bear won't bother you if it's belly is full. A hungry predator ... that's a whole nuther animal.

    Quote CD:

Many of the problems this world has are because of superstition and rituals.

Hills Response: For goodness sakes ... are you still on about that ? You're like a broken record dude. Sorry ... but it seems like you have no idea of what you're talking about. If i didn't know any better ... i would think that i was interacting with an AI forum bot that is stuck within the parameters of it's programming.

Why don't you flesh it out a bit ? A person that really knows their subject matter can break it all down into the component parts of the of the idea they are trying to convey.

So ... basically your complaint is that people don't reason things through.

A college educated person that's taken a course in statistics, could run the numbers on the various games of chance in the casino and determine the odds of winning. Having the ability to reason it through would tell them that the odds are always tipped in the house's favor.

There's a defect in your reasoning here CD. We're all of two minds you see. The left side of the brain is the part that handles reasoning. The right side is the emotional side.

Just like our right and left hands ... most folks tend to favor one side or the other.

LMAO ... there's a saying ... " Left brain people are the only ones in their right mind. "

I get this point of view but it's really funny/sad. The logical thinkers don't realize that they're terribly lacking in emotional intelligence. They're going through life with only half a brain.

Strive for balance in all things. You gotta keep the head and the heart in synch with one another to achieve the fullest human experience in this lifetime.

A scientist might look at it this way:

The brain is pretty much a big chemical stew. A WIN triggers the release of endorphins that stimulate the pleasure centers of the brain. Most people prefer to feel pleasure and avoid pain. This is the basis of most addictive behaviors.

    ~All things in moderation. ~

Your friend living in his car is an undisciplined self indulgent pleasure junkie and it's ruined his life. Some folks can only find grace at the bottom of a bottle of Jack. For others it's sex, drugs and rock n' roll.

There are many traps that people fall into ... often for emotional reasons. Altering the brain chemistry temporarily relieves the psychic pain they are suffering in life.

Nah ... i've just been riding you hard and i apologize for that. It's nothing personal. Sometimes that's the only way to get through to a person. Men in particular tend not to listen very well so you have to whack em' off the side of the head with a 2x4 first.

    Whoa,whoa,whoa .... i suppose. ?

It's probably best to try to adhere to the purpose of the forum. I can't imagine that most folks are even remotely interested in what a couple of old junkyard philosophers have to say about the state of the world.
