As long as your paying for your current service you own the telephone number, for a small fee you can have your number ported over to the voip service then tell the telephone company to take a hike as you cancel your service and still keep the number.

One of the features I like with this voip service, any voice messages get emailed to me as wav files no matter where I'm at. I have my service configured to drop any callers who do not display a caller ID.

I've only had one telemarketer call with caller ID I added his/her number to my blocked callers list, all others are dropped or you could call forward these unidentified callers to anywhere or anyone in the world.

For instance I could have set this telemarketers caller ID number to forward any future calls back to his/her pbx switchboard to be picked up by another operator working out of the same office. Remember 1 800 numbers have a round robin of unlimited incoming channels, either the caller would have been on hold or picked up by another operator.

A net buddy whom I have never met has re mailed some packages for me that I had purchased from ebayers who would not ship to Canada. As a gift to him I acquired a local number that he could dial toll free from his home.

The service is called callback, anyhow once he dialed the number I acquired he would get a busy signal, hang up, the service would call him back with a dial tone from which he could now call anywhere in the world on my nickel by just dialing straight out from that dial tone

The only hitch with this voip service is that you have to make a deposit to prepay for services, the upside is you can set the parameters to email you when your funds are getting low to avoid interruptions in service. I have my low balance triggered at $10.00

Does anybody else use Google Voice? If you've never heard of it, GOOGLE it. I use it for a business number. A call will go to any telephone or as many as you want and to your email.

Yes, I use Google Voice. Wish they had something for fax to email as well, but perhaps in time.
