Deal of the century. crane truck for $4000.00

Why are all the good deals thousands of miles distant from me,

I have almost secured a deal for this older International truck, DT 466 diesel engine, 18 ft hydraulic dumping deck Hiab 550 crane rated for 7,000 lbs lift.

Just waiting on the sellers account number to that I may transfer my deposit hopefully he does not change his mind on selling. He originally had the truck advertised at $3500.00, I bumped him up $500.00

Will have to wait and see what shows up in my email inbox on my return from the scrap yard run.

Judging from the pictures the frame needs to be stretched another 3 or 4 feet, too much overhang at the rear of the deck. As the truck is rigged out now most of the loaded weight would be on the rear axle.

This truck is almost a clone of my last one, I could stack 3 cars on it, with a Hiab you do not need a winch just use the crane to pull stuff towards the truck for loading. Lay the boom down low, hook your chain short then lift straight up, once you have reached maximum height knuckle the jib in.

Keep repeating this procedure until your wreck is close enough for loading.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the pallet forks come with the truck, never owned a set before and always wished for a set. It would make dealing with batteries a snap by palletizing them.

One time I loaded an old D6 caterpillar and could only lift one end at a time, had to put railway ties under the end lifted then do the same for the rear of the cat, once the cat was deck height worked it onto the deck. I earned my breakfast that morning.

The way you handle business, I see no problems in you getting this truck, and good idea on offering another $500 to sweeten the pot.

However, I am curious. You said, this guy is thousands of miles from you. How do you plan to get it from him to you?

EDIT: Is there another axle by chance, at the end of the bed, that we cannot see? If not, what do you plan to do about that?

The truck is in Toronto, once the seller fax's me the vin number purchase a temporary permit from the motor vehicle branch in my Province. I plan to drive y pick up, once there find a loading dock to drive mine onto the deck for the trip home. I may have to purchase a loaded permit from any scale located on route to cover the weight of the load - my truck.

As for the short wheelbase, I could cut and weld in a section which gets pretty involved with drive shafts, brake lines and wiring which I've done in the past successfully., this time however I'm going to strip the body off of the bus below then transfer the cab, deck and crane over.

I'll have to use the fuel tanks from the cab truck, they're called step tanks. Have built in inserts as steps to assist the driver in mounting the truck.

I'll gain on this option, a weld free frame with heavier axles with air brakes and a nice air ride seat with lumbar support.

It amazes me how much knowledge, and know how, that you know. I am definitely surprised you don't own some big corporate company doing all of this stuff. You would make a fortune.

Nice idea, btw, on turning the buss into what the truck is right now.

George I was born a free spirit, why would I give that up for money. You can't take it with you and very few family business's teach their offspring to take the helm on their retirement or passing.

Old money looks after itself while new money is squandered, why would I work my ass off for such a fate.

My people come from old money but this was severed when my father left his homeland, I was raised with the new money attitude. spend it while your alive.

I was just saying but you are right.

I make what I consider good money just from scrapping but I like to save and only buy things when I need them

May not get that far, the seller is a gamer. Sent more pictures and has now informed me that the crane does not work. plus he bumped me another thousand.

After speaking with the seller on the telephone I have a good understanding of why the crane is not working. Since the deck hoist and the crane share the same hydraulic pump but have separate oil tanks. The hoist is working so we know the pump works, either the crane is low on hydraulic oil or the spool valve is screwed. Personally I think it's low on oil.

The spool valve is a multi port control valve with several spools, each has a function depending on which lever the operator pulls or pushes, these spools control the down riggers, direction of the swing and lift cylinders and if so equipped a hydraulic winch.

So were not completely out of the game just yet. Will keep ya all posted as events unfold.

You'd have the only Ranchero with a 10' bed. LOL
