    Ball Winder for Fiber Crafters

This simple looking gadget had to be one of the most difficult and frustrating projects I have ever built, I could make it look like a duck but never get the wool to wind properly onto the spool.

It is a popular item among the fiber folk, it makes a center pull ball of wool. At the time they were selling on auction for a bit over $100.00.

I purchased aluminum stock to machine to pulley and cone, the belts are off the shelf O-rings and a couple of bronze bushings not shown - total cost less than $8.00 to make.

The center cone remains stationary while the big pulley below to ball rotates to create the ball of wool. The O-ring on the large pulley is to give it friction.

A similar winder currently selling on ebay for $138.00 Ball Winder

That's so awesome. I love the simplicity of it.
