The law states that one may trespass onto land during daylight hours if your intentions are honorable unless otherwise posted. I use this law to snoop, if there is something of interest that needs the owners intervention, usually the first thing they ask is how did you find it when it was inside a building.
I have two stories that get me by, during the summer months I tell them that I was checking out old buildings looking for wild honey bees which are essentially domestic bees that have swarmed and taken up a new nest. Couple of years back I actually found one and harvested the honey comb.
For my other story, I have a Jack Russel and will tell the owner we were out for a walk when the dog came onto a scent or chased a coon into the building, in truth I would never use my dog to hunt, I would hate to see the dumb little bugger get tangled up with a Badger,, Wolverine, Porcupine or a Skunk and some of the coons are three times his size, so I always leash the mutt when I'm out with him in the wild.
