Is a chat room function possible on this forum?

I thik a simple chatroom funtion for this forum would be awesome. Lot easier than talking in PM's when you know someone is on. Is it possible to get something like this for this forum?

I can build something like this for free but wont unless Admin would like me to.

The way I would go about doing it would be with irc chat room so it would not kill the bandwidth of the website (host server) Using a irc setup (I use to be a owner of a channel not all that long ago) it would not take ANY bandwidth and would be very simple to setup.

I second the request, I think a real time chat room would be great for a forum like this.

I would say limit the chatroom to registered users. That way you dont get 1000 guests trying to block up the room.

With the amount of users who are on this site it would not be a good idea to have a live chat room as it would use a large amount of bandwidth. Now I do not know how much bandwidth they have that could be used for this chat room. That is why I noted a IRC chat room (Internet Relay Chat) as that would be hosted by a server that is (free) to use. So you can use someone elses bandwidth with out having to pay for it. IRC rooms have been around and is a good way to go about to making a chat room with little work.

YEah I have used IRC in the past. Just put up a chat button and it opens a new window up and throws you in the chat room. At least I think thats how it works when its programmed. Correct me if im wrong easy.

i was simply saying that it could be done, but not what to use.

Personally i feel a chat room would take away from the forums.
