Just a little background

Hey yall. A while back I said I'd keep everyone updated on my sons progress with his G.E.D. Well, last week HE PASSED!!! His diploma is here!

I was telling another valued forum member earlier why he went this route and thought I'd let the rest of my valued scrap metal family know.

A while back I was laid up due to medical reasons and couldn't work for 3 years. Had a wreck and went through numerous surgeries. The money soon ran out and my wife was working to pay the bills. Struggling to pay the bills I should say. Those were some very hard financial times for us.



Well, Jr. saw just how hard it was. He informed me would be leaving school to get a full time job and help pay the bills. I pleaded with him not to, but he insisted that he could and would help his family. So with his promise of him returning to school when things got better I agreed.

He got a full time job at McDonalds and worked the night shift because it paid $1.00 per hour more than days. He worked hard and helped pay the bills and put food on the table. He even managed to buy Christmas and Birthday presents for his mom and younger brother. He gave up so much for his family. And never once did this young man complain.

He has never fooled with drugs and doesn't use alcohol. This kid has been 0 problems for us. His mother and I are truly blessed to have him. And extremely proud of him.

I healed up. Not quite 100%, but good enough. No one would hire me because of my injuries though. So I started scrapping and contributing financially again. Doing real good with it now. Jr. kept his promise and got that diploma! Now he is expressing interest in either becoming a welder or mechanic. Whichever he chooses I will see to it that he gets all the rest of the training he needs to make his dreams come true.

Now that my daughter who is 19, pregnant and living back at home (Please don't judge here. We all make mistakes. And I love her very, very much.) has seen him do it she enrolled in the same G.E.D school he went to! She wants to finish before March 02,2012. That's when I become a Grandpa for the first time!!!

Wow....good deal...he sounds lot like me...but..i was able to print my GED off my computer because I was home schooled under Texas law my mother and father are able to make a legal GED diploma that will hold up in any court, school system (if I want to go to collage), job or anything else. In most other states have the same law per homeschooling that the mother and father can print one off...something to look into if you child is homeschooled and or you have thought about homeschooling your child.

Now..I would like to say this to you. You have a son thats very smart...never had the "teen" years as I like to call them where they are high on drugs and messing up there life...if you lived close to me I would hire him in a new york minute. Give him a beer in my name

You and his mother are extremely proud of him,AND RIGHTLY SO!!!

Jr saw what was happening and "took it on the chin" and put his dreams on hold to help the family.
Skyline, see, im sure that you can look at Jr and know that both his mother & yourself have raised this young man properly, he sounds like he has great pride in himself and the family unit! What a good thing!
Sometimes, when things are going wrong, and we try to hide things from our kids, you know , they ain't stupid, they see it all,
i had a similar situation where my son grew up overnight, because of things that were going on, we (my wife & I) thought we were hiding it from the kids,
but my son knew all, (that we were losing our house) and pitched in .............This event me very proud, and has made me and my Wife look at him differently, if that makes sense?

I sincerely hope that he continues on his chosen career and does really well at it.

I for one, will certainly not judge anyone, Ive made too many mistakes in my life to make that call.
You are right mate, we all make mistakes, the winners are those that can pick themselves up and do what she is doing.
She is trying!!!

Thank you all for the wonderful words! I read every comment to my children just now and for the first time in long time they were all speechless. lol My daughter even had a tear in her eye. They wanted me to tell each and every one of you thanks! We all appreciate the kind words. Even my youngest son ( 11 ) was somewhat inspired by all the replies. So once again thank you so very much!!

Btw I will definitely be posting pics ( just haven't had time to sit down and quite figure it all out yet, but I will ) when the new grand baby gets here!
