    Lightbulb Suggestion - New members

It seems as this site becomes more and more popular were are getting more and more of the "Hey i just signed up and am lazy tell me all your secrets noobies"

Can something be done about this? I would love if this board stayed as hassle free for the admins and members as possible. The posts by these new members do nothing but stir up negativity and are a nuisance.

I would think something such as Limiting the new member to only being able to post in the introduction section for say 2-5 days then giving them free posting abilities will help this situation. This will force them to post an introduction then use the forums to search for information prior to posting.

Would also be a good idea to assign a moderator to the introduction section to keep down the sas

This can be done. This has also already been discussed in another thread, as well.

Regardless of who signs up, and what they decide to do first, negativity and bashing them right off the bat is not friendly either.

If someone did it to you, you mostly likely would sign back out and never visit the site again.

Like I have said before, you NEVER know who might be signing up!

Unfortunately the very nature of this site welcomes new people to join and start asking questions. You cannot change the way some people are, some are just out for the easy buck, and others are out looking to seriously learn more about the industry.

I know I have been guilty of rudely welcoming new comers and I plan on stopping this behavior. If the question is simple and easily answered with the search feature, I plan on not even commenting on the post, not even give it a second thought. But if its a question and could possibly be a safety issue for the member, then I will give my advice and also point them in the right direction as far as the search feature goes.

We cannot change the "laziness" of new comers but we can change our attitudes and make this a better place.

I come here for the friendship and for knowledge, i don't need the drama.

I agree with Droz... nobody would bash Droz because he didnt come onto the forum to be spoonfed. This is certainly a sign of the times and our culture/society - "Give me what I want NOW or else you must be "bad"... unfortunately there is no table of contents here, there is so much to the recycling business that you can't put it into that context.

In all honesty how can anyone defend someones first or second thread that starts of "How much do people make on (fill in the blank here)" , "what is this worth?" and last but not least "How can I make money scrapping".

Take the time to do a little RESEARCH on here. There is a search bar at the top of the page with an advanced search filter.

Answering the SAME questions over and over again is counterproductive and stops the hardworking people on here who are growing, learning and above all patient, from getting their value from the COMMUNITY.

Perhaps make an introductory YouTube video for new members that outlines in 1 minute, the features and benefits as well as appropriate conduct so the community doesn't regress in quality.

    Just my two cents

In the "Introduce Yourself" section of the Off Topic forum, there is a "sticky" that I understand pops up whenever someone registers. It encourages people to introduce themselves before asking a question. I often also encourage people to introduce themselves so others can do a better job helping with questions than if they were to just ask without any background info such as location, experience, equipment, type of scrapping they'll be doing etc.

I've gotten a few PMs about this as well as "reported posts". But simply asking a question or doing something you don't like is not against the rules. I would suggest that if you don't want to answer the person -- don't. Please don't "bash".
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
