    advertising

As many of us on here can tell anyone, professionalism in this type of industry, is a plus among MANY people.

We all have mentioned it time and time again, how scrappers in our areas that steal, and vandalize properties, give the ones of us who run legitimate, trust worthy businesses a bad reputation.

I know for me, after my partner and I parted ways, I knew that I needed to become more professional than what I was. So, I came up with a name, designed a website, made forms (jotform.com), created ads using microsoft publisher, hosting them on photobucket.com, and started advertising on craigslist.org.

All of which has done real well for my business.

So, with all that being said, I am curious to know what ways (advertising) do you use to help your business flourish?

I mainly use business cards, letters on company letter head that I use in my mailing campaigns, flyers, business cards, vehicle advertising, and uniforms that I get from unifirst.com.

I have a business hosting account with hostgator.com, and that is what I use to create my website. I used their program called "sitebuilder" However, they just joined forces with basekit.com, so I am in the process of re designing my entire website using them. Will let you all know once it is completed.

My advertising is all - website and word of mouth. Mostly website. My truck is lettered but that's hasn't gotten me anything in over ten years in two different businesses. Mainly it's to satisfy IRS requirements to show exclusive business usage. Cards get passed out to customers to pass along and hopefully keep for reference. But just having a website wont get you any business. It has to be on the first two pages of the search engine the potential customer is using. That's why "do-it-yourself" websites are useless.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Mick, so how do you get your web site at the top of searches? Mike.

There are several tricks, but it comes down to effective key words, keeping content updated and NEVER cut and paste ANYTHING to your site (pertinent links are good; cut-and-paste is the Google kiss of death).

If you want the nitty gritty of it do a Google search for SEO, or search engine optimization.

I'm a very small operation, so: Business cards and vehicle magnets. Just made a Facebook business page too. I have to say I've gotten the most business off my vehicle magnets! Are these websites that you mention free? I'll have to check them out.

No. They can run thousands of dollars. See my website and if you like it, click on the tab that says something like "want a website like this one?". Friend of mine developed mine and is looking for a few more. It wont cost you thousands, either.
