    Makes you wonder...

Some tissue holders are radioactive! Makes you wonder what else is! Need to get a geiger counter to do the shopping!

Thanks, Joe. Maybe I should learn how to operate the links before I try the geiger counter!

Yea, but what's the point of worrying. Hershey's radiates their candy bars, crop dusters drop poisons all around me, our veggies and produce are full of poison and processed food isn't really food. I just eat organic when I can, avoid a drivethrough at all costs and drink a lot of purified (I hope) water.

"If someone has one of these, they could receive a small radiation dose from it," he said. For example, he said someone keeping one of the boxes on a vanity in the bathroom and spending about 30 minutes a day near it for a year would receive the equivalent of a couple of chest x-rays.

    ...And then the glowing started....

Not to be a paranoiac or anything, but is imported stuff tested for radiation routinely or did this just happen to get caught? Anybody on here from Homeland Security?

I believe the whole continental US has low levels of background radiation from plutonium and uranium isotopes. This is due to fallout from early weapons testing in the 40's and 50's. Not enough to cause damage (so they say) but it is there nonetheless.

lol Now I gotta wonder about that. Don't know why she wanted to go there, but she did. Turned out to be a great evening though.

I worked in a radioactive field before and trust me if there was something to worry about they would let you know. From what little info I was able to find out this seems to be fine and not a huge issue but if you have it...just take it back.

    Things people dont know.

    Smoke alarms
    bananas
    microwaves
    car
    old tvs
    some computers

and many other house hold items have and or make some kind of radioactive and or radio waves that can be harmful but on the other note...if you did not get ANY radiation you would be come sick. The radiation helps kills weak skin cells and helps brake down the compose pile out in your yard. All of this would be called background radiation.

I will end this here as I can go on a good bit on this subject as I learned alot when I was working on that job and all of it seemed awesome.

Yes they really are radioactive along with MANY of your other foods, trash can and even your own body MAKES radiation to some point! So when people want to freak out when they want to build a nuke power plant...they don't understand the amount of radiation is LOWER than what the background radiation is, this being said nuke plants are VERY safe to live by unless something happens but even then trust me you are more than safe.

I can not go into to much details on nuclear power plants and how they are built and how they work but what I can tell you is this.

The power plant is build 3 times. In short this means that...well...lets make this simple

You have one light bulb with one wire.

the power plant will have 3 light bulbs and each light bulb will have 3 wires. Its build on a redundant system for safety so if any one item failed...they have 2 more of said item...and 2 more power lines going to it. So, all pumps..they have three of them on three power lines are not connected together. I hope ya'll understand because its hard to explain something short...that you just have so much info on.
