I can not go into to much details on nuclear power plants and how they are built and how they work but what I can tell you is this.

The power plant is build 3 times. In short this means that...well...lets make this simple

You have one light bulb with one wire.

the power plant will have 3 light bulbs and each light bulb will have 3 wires. Its build on a redundant system for safety so if any one item failed...they have 2 more of said item...and 2 more power lines going to it. So, all pumps..they have three of them on three power lines are not connected together. I hope ya'll understand because its hard to explain something short...that you just have so much info on.
O no, I understand ya. My nanners can kill me. Right?

These come up for sale from time to time in auctions around here. Here is a fun youtube video:

I was waiting for someone to bring that up.

A long story short they just got messed up back when the earthquake hit them. It took out some of the main pumps so they where having a issue with shutting it all down....then the water came...they knocked out all the power on all three lines, there back up gens where damaged by the earthquake and where not able to start.

That is why they needed gen and pumps to shut it down.

Also note the damage they took on the housing it self.

They had a list of things failing and could not keep up with it. But if they HAD power after the earthquake they COULD of shut it down even with the main pumps dead as they still had the back up pumps that they USED after they had a main power line back up and running.

I learned about this one...reason why that happened ...is kinda funny to but not funny...

They went to do a test...a very simple every day test...what they did not know was that the system was all ready broken...so when they started the test it seemed like it was going as it should but then it started to spin out of control.

Its just hard to explain unless you have worked on the inside of one and been apart of the testing, rebuilding of them.

Nothing to worry about except cancer, HO! and that extra finger I have on my right hand. This is what I don't understand about the main story of this thread. It said that there isn't enough radiation to harm anyone but only 4 boxes set off the radiation detector.

What was that nuclear place in TN, oak hill, or pine oak ridge or something? Even the deers that they hunted near it had to be tested. A guy I knew in Nashville had a deer from near there he'd had tested, and he still wasn't thinking he would keep it.

lol...so does that mean red roof inn or whichever hotel/motel it is that says.."We'll leave the light on for you." mean the whole place is full of radiation or just the people that work night shift?
