I don't have cable or a satellite dish. I was having the same issue. I went to Radio Shack and bought a reception booster. It plugs into the wall and is installed in series between the TV and the antenna. I have a lot better picture now. It's not perfect all the time, but much improved.

Typical government intervention...Free digital tv, you just have to spend $50 to get it to work right.

Alright this might be a dumb question - but does the reception booster look like a modem? I found something like that out picking but I thought it was for wifi signals only. Would it work for digital tv signals as well or is that a completely different device?

For regular tv just pick up a tv preamp. Usually about a 20 db gain on most, Wally world might be cheaper than R.S. bought mine at Big R for $14.95

Does the device have a name or numbers?

Yep, we really got hosed when they went to digital, not to mention the cost to the tv stations to revamp everything. I had to go higher on my tower with my antenna and add the preamp. Next step is a longer ant. this one is 8' long. Probably have to get a tree trimming truck to put the ant up on top of the tower, they work pretty cheap if you can catch them during a slow period.

A good way to get a antenna for cheap is have a roofer keep an eye out for one. Back when I was roofing we would take down and scrap most antennas as the home owners did not want them.

Don't buy into the idea that you need one of those useless little digital antennas, they are about as good as the ole' rabbit ears, stick with the good old fashion aluminum type.
