U.K. No more cash for scrap payments

    New crackdown for scrap dealers?

In a bid to stop thieves targeting copper thefts from British rail and commercial property a new law has been introduced to stop Scrap yards from handing cash for scrap payments.

    Scrap metal merchants, look out.
    -No more cash payments.
    -Facial identity checks.
-The likelihood of many more arrests.
All proposals for tougher regulation of the UK's £5bn scrap metal industry - an industry that's boomed due to huge raw material demand from India and China. But it's an industry that has also seen massive metal theft from churches to railway yards to house roofs.

Home Office minister Lord Henley told the BBC ID checks would almost certainly be part of the new regulations. "At the moment you can just go there and sign in as Mickey Mouse or whoever. We want proper ID so there's greater transparency and a greater chain of who owns what."

Have to agree with the BMRA spokesperson, doing away with cash will just feed the black market.

Same as here, but in a quieter, more refined way, mate! lol

    Skiprat (love the name)
If these measures would stop the 'bad guys' Then i for one would be happy
But as stated it will drive it under-ground and not solve the problems that we in the UK face (fuel - silly price now 1.40+/ insurance 1000+).
Being legit (self employed) it is hard because they give us 'good guys' a bad name and people look at us the same , this will take a lot of hard work to put right (I'm always nice, polite and honest with people-but i feel it's an uphill battle sometimes).
    But hey we will win.
Always nice to see a UK (Lancashire myself) on here - good luck and health..

    british - feeling very british

But escrap in the UK they look at you like you got 2 heads (what mate mother boards , ram , gold fingers - then 'we only take metal 'ere) - we are sooo far behind here it's crazy).
the average scrap yard here would take the PC case for light iron (shread) and look at the insides as waste.

British - given up on these scrapalot taglines
