    Good luck to them all!

probably true. Not sure I'd welcome the noise either but those in the EU are more forgiving of their personal space.

At least they look professional with those clean, big trucks.

If you are lucky they would call the cops here, not so lucky some buckshot. Some people don't like a noisey neighborhood.

thanks for posting that skiprat...it is always interesting to see how things are done in other countries....and to learn what scrapers get called. Was confused at first at the term tooters......wonder how "rag and bone man" started ? funny...wish I had a truck like that...good gas mileage I bet.

    Cheers Dee,
Check the wiki link that Idaho has given you, it gives you an idea of how the term originated,
To be honest the term that i used "Tooters" is more slang than a correct term, apologies for that.
Also names given to most fields of work do generally change from region to region, and then even more so where slang gets used as well?

    Such as Tooters >
Toot = rubbish [garbage] = therefor someone that toots through the rubbish is a Tooter
But not to be mistaken for the normal Bin man > Garbage collection >Dustman etc.

Totters = [See the difference] ^^ an early form of Rag & Bone men, In London dating back to 1500's

Its very interesting when you get reading about it

I saw skipRAT get out of one of those vans.
I know lying is wrong, but if the elephant man came in now in a blouse with some make up on, and said, "How do I look?" Would you say, bearing in mind he's depressed and has respiratory problems, would you say, "Go and take that blusher off you mis-shapened elephant tranny?" No. You'd say, "You look nice... John""

The horn on those things sounds like a goose being fed backwards into a wood chipper!
