thanks for posting that skiprat...it is always interesting to see how things are done in other countries....and to learn what scrapers get called. Was confused at first at the term tooters......wonder how "rag and bone man" started ? funny...wish I had a truck like that...good gas mileage I bet.

Check the wiki link that Idaho has given you, it gives you an idea of how the term originated,
To be honest the term that i used "Tooters" is more slang than a correct term, apologies for that.
Also names given to most fields of work do generally change from region to region, and then even more so where slang gets used as well?
Such as Tooters >
Toot = rubbish [garbage] = therefor someone that toots through the rubbish is a Tooter
But not to be mistaken for the normal Bin man > Garbage collection >Dustman etc.
Totters = [See the difference] ^^ an early form of Rag & Bone men, In London dating back to 1500's
