I had seen this giant stainless propeller sitting in a back yard about a block off the Interstate last month.
Showing real dedication to the heist, thieves managed to make off with a 70-inch stainless-steel propeller that was meant for a Seattle park sometime yesterday morning.
Thieves drove up an alley in the University District this morning and, managing to overcome the obstacles of both a retaining wall and a fence, lifted the 1,260-pound propeller onto a truck and drove away with it. There were no witnesses. Neighbors heard a commotion and called the police, but the thieves were long gone.
A security guard at the Northwest Corporate Park found the 1,200-pound propeller attached by a tow strap to a tree.
