    Guess What?

I HATE STRIPPING WIRE! Lol I've been stripping the CAT5 wire that I collected and it sucks. Sorry for the negative post just had to vent a little. I have cysts in both of my wrists that push the tendon against the bone when they get inflamed and i have been pushing it lately with the whole moving ordeal. My new wrist brace came in yesterday so let's hope that helps! Thanks for listening!

We all feel your pain. One reason I bought the wire stripper, that and it hurts my feelings to loose money by not stripping the wire. Mike

wow I would never strip cat5. my yard pays cat 5 at 50% which is about $1.50 right now. Plus its way to thin on the copper o either bother stripping in my opinion.

I just can't bring myself to turn it in for less when some effort could bring in more...

The local yard that I found pays significantly less if the wire isn't stripped unfortunatly

Have you looked into shipping it out? Maybe worth shipping a 55gallon drum to a better buyer.

I thought about it but I really don't think that i have enough of it to make it worth shipping.

When shipping by large truck you can get the shipping down to 14or so cents a pound.

A stuffed 55gallon drum will be over 100pounds but lets say its just 100 for easy math. You will get around 1.2 or so apound....may not be able to sell as often but it will make the bottom line better in the long run.

If you strip the cat5 wire does it fall into the "bright/shiny" category?

No still copper 2 then. If you can find a yard that will buy it unstripped at like 1.25 or 1.50 you wont be loosing money.

I was going on the very light side for someone who may not "stuff" the drums. I know I can fit just over 200 or so pounds. As your filling it stand ontop of it and it will push the wire down and you can fit alot more in there. I ship out using gaylords but will get up in them and walk around to push things down so I can get more weight.

Then what the heck falls into the "bright/shiny" category? I figured that it was copper that looked bright and shiny was the "bright/shiny" Silly me

I think in this case Julie, even stripped it's too small to be bright or even #1.

Well I think that I need to look into this whole wire situation a little bit better. My boyfriend called the yard while i was at work and said that it was better for us if we stripped it. Either way whatever i guess

With copper you have to weight out two things. A how much weight you have. B. How long it takes to strip and how much money you make over the price of just selling it. If you strip 6 lbs in a hour for an extra 1.50 a lb. Then you just made 9 bucks an hour then you have to ask is it easier to work at mcdonalds then do this job. Sometimes using your time to do other types of scrap work is a better option. Tripping over dollars to get to dimes. I bet I use the phrase once a day. I always like to know in my head ahead of time how long something takes to do.

I so feel your pain Julie. I've pretty much given up stripping all but the best stuff, and just sell it insulated. I swear if I'm ever going to get rich in this industry it'll be by inventing a small scale easy to use wire granulator.
