    what is it?

Tore down a dormer refrigerator yesterday and an undercounter wine cooler today and neither one had a compressor. Both had 2 big aluminum heat sinks with fans mounted on them and this chip mounted between them. Any idea what the chip is and does it have any value?

I have a thermoelectric cooler that plugs into a cig lighter...could be the same sort of technology.

So a 6 dollar chip and some extruded aluminum can take the place of a 75 dollar compressor? I wonder what it would take to scale it up to cool a house?

The truckers have coolers that do that, and if they pull the power plug and flip them over and plug back in the cooler gets warm to keep hot food hot. Isn't technology great?

I could use a few of these for my amps. I could jamb out louder longer without overheating.

They are a peltier cooler, the technology amazed me when I first found them, they are usually coupled with really large heat sinks. The more heat you pull off one side the colder the other gets, reverse the polarity and the sides change from hot to cold. I ordered an adjustable UPS offline so I can control the input to these which then controls the tempature, tried a few inventions, the coldest temp I have read off the cold side is 17* and 123* on the hot sides....Crazy something that small can take the place of a compressor, in the future compressors may become obsolete.

The fancy cars coming with the cup holders that heat or cool your drink are using this exact same technology.

I see it draws 9 amps @ 12 volt, there must be a pretty good sized transformer that runs it in the wine cooler.

If you plan on resale I would think the transformer is worth more then the chip.

The ones I've pulled all run on 96 v DC. Very small boards in them.

Joe are you sure that is 96 volt or is it 96 watt?

That comes out to be 8 amp. There has to be a transformer in there some where.

From what I understand they are not especially cheap to run, so using them to cool a house would be an expensive option due to the electricity they would use. I think that if someone can make one that is efficient they would be used to replace compressors as quickly as possible. At a guess I would think every fridge manufacturer is working on this right now.

Would you say, bearing in mind he's depressed and has respiratory problems, would you say, "Go and take that blusher off you mis-shapened elephant tranny?" No. You'd say, "You look nice... John""

Joe, on both units the boards were a little bigger than my hand and had very small transformers on them. It may have been 96 watts, old guys eyes you know!

Good one Joe! Was the wire a normal plug or was it setup for a plug in trans. ? You know like a laptop transformer.

The transformer on that board is just to power the board itself.

Wayne I agree with you on the high cost to run at that consumption.

I see in the future these being used along with solar cells to replace many applications we see today.

Say I do like that new banner I just earned or was awarded! Thanks guys!

They both had 110v cords on them, the wine cooler was a built-in under counter one.

Okay Sorry to get off topic Joe but I must ask, What is the ruler modified for?

Are you a fly fisherman or is it setup for some craft deal or perhaps for net knots?

Can't be for measuring B sized Tators

Read the back of the ruler because I was wondering too. It's for pulling out and pushing in oven racks!

What the Martha Stewart is that all about?

Well at least it was made in the USA! I thought for sure you or your wife had made these notches for a personal usage.

Sure had my creative mind racing! Acutely still does!

Joe, if I had a wife I would have already known what the ruler was for. All I knew about it is that is was free at a home show!
