Mick on memory sticks the gold finger is the visible gold everyone can see. What can not be seen is the gold in the flat packs, and the gold trace under them. Remember every computer board has gold trace running through it as well as copper in the same line. Anyone that sends boards to be refined should ask for a full accounting of all metals which would include copper as well. An honest refinery should have no problem giving and paying on that accounting.

The memory sticks work the same way. Along with the gold on the fingers there is gold hair wire running through each black chip. Also remember there are mlcc on the sticks which contain platinum, silver and possibly other metals.

So the person that paid that amount might look like they overpaid but if they are refining all the metals in them then they may be coming out ahead or they are hedging and holding the metals thinking that they are going to increase in price in the future. Not everyone who buys ewaste buys for the same reason. I hope this shed some light on this for you.
