Switching gears for the summer

We cashed in most of our non-ferrous that we have been collecting since March today figuring the way steel is dropping non- ferrous is close behind. Now we are going to be hitting ewaste hard as our cl ads and other contacts are paying off. Decided that any steel we get is going directly back into equipt(trailer and maybe a plasma cutter,or inverter for the truck). Any non- ferrous is going to get stored until the fall right before election time. Maybe I'm wrong but I figure an election year combined with the pre-holiday gear up to get product to the shelves there should be brief window where metals might get back up a bit. Also figure that from what I've seen around my area with the drop off of people scrapping and amout of quality scrap on streets last two garbage nights, there will be plenty of steel to get through the summer even with prices dropping. An example of this is this past tues left work at 430 a.m. and drove around a bit just to see if any scrap was left before garbage got picked up.Picked up three full towers , flat screen gateway monitor and passed at least 4 televisions. What's your plan?

Mine's similar to yours. Shred has always been a nice little boost in the wallet for me as well. I really cash in on non-ferrous. I can store a good bit of it but I don't think I'll have the room to store it until the fall! I've got quite a collection of motherboards, chips, RAM, etc. so I'll probably cash that out soon as well. While everyone else drops off the face of the scrap planet, it's guys like us that will reap the benefits. We don't quit when the going gets tough.

Nope I like it too much to slow down now. Now is when you can make the money others are leaving behind. We are a hard headed bunch aren't we !

I try to hold longer than usual before i cash in. Still going to make money just a few extra pounds needed.

Lower Price = Less idiots and more weight for all of us. So all in all I think it may balance out with the price and picking up more weight because the people that were doing it when the price was higher aren't going to be out as much because of the price of gas. Those thinking they can't make as much because the price is down.

I buy bout 95% of what I sell so I've got to slow down til the money comes back but I sure won't pass up any free metal. Time to work on my rigs and get cleaned up, and probadly do sum fishing, just got a Lil fishing boat. Plus don't think anyone is going to want to sell me iron for a really low price I'd be able to offer given the current market

Im still ganna run the streets / pick ups. I really got nothing else to do.

My plan is to continue with what I have been working on in real estate. I have been struggling to keep my head above water for a few years as a contractor with the economy lagging. I have been building relationships with investors and it looks as though I may have a joint venture partner, he provides the money, I provide the labor for market price, and we split profits. Since the economy is so unstable several wealthy clients have seen me consistently buying run down buildings and are tired of the ride they get in stocks. They may come on board to fund a project.

I believe that my future will be in buying, processing, and selling e-scrap. I want to get away from contracting and feel this provides a good opportunity. I am working on a business plan and it will give me a better idea of how to reach a full time salary with it. I have starting with a little test marketing and already had good results. I also have a few ideas. Here they are:

* Municipal e-waste Recycling
A few of the local boro building have paper recycling receptacles in their lots. I would like to get mine next to them.

* School Recycling / Fundraising
Come fall schooll will be back. I am working now to gain contacts to do an electronics drive that will benefit the school and me of course. Mutual profit is a good thing.

* Sports Groups, Non-Profits, Local Organizations
Fundraising events with collections where portion of proceeds goto group.

One of the ideas I am working on is accepting the stuff, fridge, a/c, etc. most electronics drives refuse.

I am also working into my plan a method to schedule pick ups for event supporters that want to donate or recycle larger appliances.
