chalkboards

I recently found a stash of chalkboards from an old school. Just brainstorming here. My wife wants them for the basement floor!?? They are really heavy. about 1/4" thick 4x8, 5x9, 4x10 pieces. There must be 25-30 of them.
Any ideas? What are they worth? Black slate.
They are in a basement storage area in the original building. Alot of work just to remove them.
Any input appreciated.

If you can cut them, make little 2' x 3' rectangles, slap a wooden border around them (something like some baseboard trim) and sell them on feebay.

Or cut them a bit bigger and see if any local restaurants need them for a "Special of the Day" board.

A couple of things come to mind as I've worked with these a long time ago:

1: When they break they can have razor shape edges.

2: I think they would be extremely slippery when wet.

Both of those are not qualities that would be good for a floor.

Do as waredu says and cut them into small blackboards. Put one in your shop and your garage to make notes like when to change oil or that you need to pick up grinding discs etc. Then sell the rest on CL or Ebay.

Thanks for the input. RustyDollars, I thought they would be slippery as well. Surprisingly enough, they're not. Not like polished marble or granite anyway. Anyway for the moment they aren't going anywhere so I'll have to think about this one.

I think they'd even be too heavy for a modern day chalkboard
