So i made my first trip to the yard today..Im trying to come up with a little black book of what I should pay for electronics to scrap, before I go into the green..very interesting to say the least. win some lose some i suppose, but learning all I can. Does anyone else have a little black book of what to pay before you make money on something. This doesnt include time, because lets face it breaking stuff is a reward in and of itself. :D
I like the free stuff and there's alot of it out there. I allways make money on the free bees
I agree on the stress relief and the "discovery" factor in breaking down scrap. A short answer to you how much should you pay is up in the air form me. My buyer just lowered the price he pays for P4 mobo's which greatly effects how much I pay.
I suggest you get as much as you can for free now and get an idea of what you can sell the parts for. One of members on the forum has been selling some of the parts online and making more then scrap. Shipping costs make a big difference and its different for different areas.
Read the old threads but keep in mind the price changes that have happened since those threads have been written. Mike.
When i first started dealing w computers, i gave a guy $5 for 5 towers..guess i was goldstruck...hehe...he didnt ask for any money but i felt i was obligated..wanted to seem like a pro as well as a business man..never again..not a bad deal at all, but if they r free then they are, well FREE.. thats the way to go..if i ever come across a deal for 50+ i could pay 3 or 4 bucks a pop..thats if they werent free of course..depends who you are networking with i suppose
I have been targeting my marketing efforts toward businesses. Most have e-waste they need to get rid of. After driving, loading and breaking down anything less than a truck load I usually need to take at no cost. Remember nothing is free if you spend time and gas to go get it.
I stopped offering to pay for stuff after the last trip I made. The guy had me wait like 2 hours. It was an hour drive to get there so I went and ate and waited. He told me "I have a ton of stuff, like 20 lbs. of RAM." Well worth the effort for twenty pounds. I got there and it was like 2.2 lbs. WHA WHA WHAAAAAAA.
If I am going to pay for e-waste it has to be brought to me and then I want it cheap. 30% to 40% of what I can get is my max. offer. After processing, and shipping, that nets me about 50% profit. Plus it is a hedge against the market going down a little.
when i get a full list of stuff..Ill post it..maybe it could help some..in the mean time im having one hell of a time breaking stuff..and breaking even :cool:
heres an update..computer monitors need to be bought for about 3.08 to break even where im at..electric motors on the other hand can be bought at about 4 to break even..the monitors are the old crt type..and the motors are smaller 1/4 horse if i remember correctly..and the journey continues.:cool:
