Can a trailer/SUV rig scrap as well in the long run as a pickup? Seems to me that if you've got a fairly good sized trailer you'll have more room than a pickup, then when you're done scrapping you just unhitch it and your tow vehicle becomes more fuel efficient. I guess it might depend on the tow vehicle.
What kind of rigs are you guys using, and are you primarily curb shopping with them or doing pick-ups? How well does your current rig work out for you?

I have both trucks and trailers but if I could only pick one then it would be a trailer for sure.
Trailers allow you haul more but pickups are easier to turn around. I have 4 trailers for shred and prep, use the pick up bed for copper and what not, aside from a junk collector.
And oh yeah running a 81 4wd half ton chevy and a 86 Chevy 2wd 3/4 ton. For trailers have two pickup box trailers and a car trailer and a 28' open top Stock trailer
I used to have a Bronco, and i would use my brothers trailer. Worked well, plus I could put buckets in the back of the Bronco, or bags of cans, etc. the downfall was after awhile the trailer got annoying...having to watch turns, or if I had to stop somewhere with a parking lot, and just backing up in general (the trailer didn't back up well). But as it is I'm still looking at getting a trailer for my truck. It's really personal preference.

I had a trailer I used with my LTD AND Sable
I use a ford Explorer with a trailer for most of my pickups then transfer them to a bigger trailer once the scrap is prepped and separated as well. Works great for when the family is along for the ride etc.
You need both. You need tools, and a trailer is one of the main tools you need. I carry the hand and power tools, dollies and ramps etc in the truck, and load smaller things in there too, with things i don't want crushed, and the trailer gets the scrap. If your vehicle is a stick shift, remember the added load of the tools, trailer, and scrap, and increase your running and shifting RPMs accordingly
Cargo van gets the most use, then the pick up and the 16ft trailer only gets out every once in awhile.

^That picture shows it in the drop position totally 100% flat on the ground there is absolutely no incline at ALL! There is a hydraulic assemblies on each side and it raises up about 18 inches or so to drive.
Thatd be a pretty sick trailer to own.
Pickup truck without trailer for curb shopping. Curb shopping finds transfer onto a 16' trailer. The trailer remains parked untill its filled, and brought to the yard, or when it's needed for large scheduled pick ups.
I'm thinking about getting a hitch for the wifes car. Then build a small trailer. That way we can take more of the higher paying scrap to the yard that is 80mi one way. I normaly make the 80mi trip once a month for some mental health appointments anyways.
