ARGH!!!! Dang cord cutters tonight!!!!!

So I'm out with my mom and come across a Pioneer projection monitor receiver. They had a bag tied on the back with the remote and book. Asked about it and it still works (who knows why its at the street, its a reeeeaaallllly nice neighborhood). Go back for my dad hoping its still there.

It's dark by now, its late and I've been up for a day and a half at this point. Load it in the truck, get it home, no cord.

*Bangs head on garage wall*

The receipt for it was in the book and it cost 3699.00 when they bought it.

*double head bang*

Now I would bang my head too lol. Sorry man maybe try an take it to a repair shop and have a new cord installed?

I bet you could put a new cord om it yourself?

I did this not too long ago with an Oreck vacuum cleaner. It was obvious they threw it out because the belt burned up; apparently they didn't realize what happened, or that there was a spare belt on the bottom of the machine. They did manage to cut the cord, however; I'm only guessing it was so nobody else could use it, since the cord was still with the machine. I pulled the old wiring off the motor, stripped some of the remaining cord and re-installed. Works great! It's a keeper, too, much better than my old vacuum.

thats why i keep computer cords i stash them some are 20 foot long nice and thick also i love when extension cords are thrown away i make cords out of them too..

It will be safe as long as the cord you put onto the appliance is at least as large as the one that was cut off. For example, you wouldn't want to use a Christmas light extension cord to rewire a vacuum cleaner; typically those wires are too light and you would overheat them and create a risk of a fire. On the other hand, if you have some of that orange heavy-gauge outdoor extension cord, that would be appropriate to use on a vacuum cleaner.

You must also make sure you make the connections correctly. You must mimic the type of connectors that were originally used by the appliance manufacturer, and you must be taking care to make sure that you wire the "hot" side of the plug to the part of the appliance that originally was connected to the "hot" side (typically a black wire.) If you reverse the wiring, the appliance may still operate, but you will risk electric shock while using the appliance.

Unfortunately, you have to know what you're doing, and there isn't an easy way for me to explain it beyond what I've said above. If you aren't sure -- certain, even -- that you know what you're doing, then DON'T. Your safety and health are not worth risking on a curb-shopped appliance. If you don't know what you're doing, you could start a fire, or electrocute one of your children, or any number of other horrible things. If you DO know what you're doing, then you risk none of those things.

As long as you know what your doing...white on white, black on black and green on green. You can use appropriate size crimped connections with shrink tube over top or solder connections.

If it's worth that much money - isn't it worth paying an electrician a few bucks to wire it properly? Better safe than sorry. Just my 2 cents. Great find btw.

You know that head banging thing is quite common ... ha ha, I find myself doing it quite often. Although it is generally while listening to Metallica and breaking down scrap.

So as to not hijack the thread, I agree with most of the other folks. IF you know how to wire it up, then do so, if not. Don't.

I keep a stash of different size cords on hand, I've had to re-wire quite a few things, cord cutters are plentiful around here.

Alot of the newer tv's use a standard computer/monitor power cord now, makes it easier.

If you don't feel comfortable tackling it though, have someone else do it.
