What is the max you pay for a complete unmolested tower? Have a person who wants 6 per box and thinking of doing it. But I also think its really cutting a lot of meat of the bone....

I would offer him by the pound I give people .25 a lb. Also how many units does he have to sell
at your quote figuring each box weighs 25 lbs, that puts it right at 6.25 a box. I rather not say quantity as Im starting to get some heat round here. Think my competition is lurking and trying to beat me at the game. :>
I keep coming back to $5 each. HOWEVER...I have a local computer store that I just picked up at and he had 50 computers. Every computer was complete except for the hard drive. I started talking to him about maybe $4 each, and he hesitated a bit. It gave me enough time to realize that I would be biting the hand that fed me to offer less when he was doing me a favor (he knew i was getting started in the biz). He had other buyers but wanted to sell it to a local person. I just bit my tongue and handed over $5 each. He then proceeded to load me up with 2 huge boxes of old laptop parts, batteries, power supplies, drives, etc. He also let me have about 17 UPS systems, couple monitors and a few printers. All that just for the cost of the computers. Plus each computer was loaded with multiple sticks of ram. Then he gave me the 20+ power supplies sitting on a top shelf gathering dust. Anyway, the point is this. Even if you have to pay a bit more, you may gain a loyal customer and get more in return than what you actually paid for. Not in all circumstances, but it happens alot :)

Lately it's been getting tougher to get any towers with harddrives in them. Even offering to destroy them at time of pickup has not been working. The $5 price seems to be the number around here even without the harddrives. I think it's just a mind set that $5 always sounds better than $4. I have been doing ok with $5 without the hd's because I usually get the extras too. Wires,cd/DVD drives, extra mobos, printers etc.
Also something to think about is buying by weight. If you are getting the smaller towers then it may be better to buy at .20 to .25# on those. They are smaller and parts are smaller which equals less weight on parts when getting paid out. Just a thought.
Ide pay $6 for a tower in a heart beat if it has everything in it. Needs to have at least 1 finger card though. Also needs to be more along the lines of 10 or more at a time also. Im not going to drive 10 miles on a CL call and pay someone $6 for a single computer.
I charge a flat rate per pound. And I can be pretty conservative on price because there isn't much of the market here. Lots of scrap not many people to buy it.

Yea but by the pound then you have to weight each one where just doing $5. each you really don't need a calculator.

When you buy by the pound are you measuring with a certified scale? In my state we are required to have a certified device when used in "trade or commercial sales".
When I said .25 per lb I'm buying whole skids or Gaylord boxes at a time most of the time 4 or 5 skids
At $5 each i dont care if they have hard drives in them or not. Its the customers right to keep the hard drive if they wish. If any other parts are missing i offer quite a bit less.
I usually pay $5 per tower, if mostly complete (HD missing is OK). I did pay $6 per tower once for about 50 towers. No HD in them, but were otherwise complete and all had multiple cards in them. Plus they were delivered to my shop, so time and expense to go get them.
My customers love that I use my scale.......I give them a breakdown on company letterhead and try to answer as many questions as possible to help them sort their loads and maximize their moneyQuote:
