I Got Robbed

I have put a post bragging about another what of a job that I got hauling off a huge pile a chain link fence, well today I drove over to the yard to pick up more of the fence and I found out that the employees that worked at that yard called in sick and took it apron themselves to take over half of the pile of fence from me.
Here is the kicker, they called in sick and during the night they loaded up their company truck with the fence that I was authorized to take OK, this morning they took it to the scrap yard that I have been dealing with for over a year and a half, and top of that one of the three guys cut a company check for something, but I called their regional manager he came down from Georgia and I showed him the pics that I took of that pile that I was working on, the regional manager was highly ticked off about it.
So now it is pending an investigation and criminal charges are being filed on the three guys that took the chain link fence and another thing about it, is that they didn't raise a stick about it until I started working on it and then they wanted me to give them a cut of what I was making off of it.

What do y'all think about this, I would like to know, oh one thing that drives my very crazy is a metal thief, I really hate when a thief just takes something that I have been working my but off, so can be able to support my family and now I am out of a lot of money because of that.

maybe you should use a contract on stuff like that ?

It sucks but, with todays lack of morality in business. no contract no deal, and todays world a contract seem to be only a maybe deal. till you load it drop it off at the yard and the cash is in your pocket. Just reality these days.

Sorry for your loss...Even with contract in hand, crooks will be crooks and you might spend a lot of time chasing the missing scrap and still not get the cash.

Once striking a deal with someone I do everything in my power to get possession as quickly as possible to avoid losses. People are often impressed with the quick service not knowing I'm just trying to protect the load.

Well I called the company, to see if there would be a person there at the yard and I was told to wait because there will be some fireworks flying there.
Those guys that stole that fence from me, I really hope that they get what they deserve.

Oh there is one thing, I am doing this to make a living, until I can land an hourly paying job and what these guys did to me was not only taking money out of my pocket, but they took food out of my families mouth and that is why I am so irritated about it, oh another thing I really hate metal thieves.

I hope the thieves get what's coming to them. More importantly, I hope you find regular work, it sounds like full time scrapping is not what you want to be doing. I know I am not cut out for that.

I see an excellent opportunity to get a full time job at the yard as it sounds like they may be having 3 openings. Make your best impression on the regional manager while you can. Best of luck!

well don't get me wrong, I like what I do, but these little idiots that stole over half my load, they don't realize that I use that money for my family, plus I am trying to make this a legit business, but having a regular job dose make it a little bit easier, I like scrapping, because I can lift more than my weight, plus the interaction with people is what I enjoy the most, the more I talk to people about scrap metal recycling then out of all of the people who talk to, I would have a lead on several of them.
Doing scrap metal is not for the weak and sometime even the strong ones have a rough time as well, but if you are honest and hard working and you really want to earn a couple of buck, then you can make it into a legit business ( hard work and determination and last don't jerk people around)

Yesterday when I was talking to the regional manager, I did ask him, he told me that this Sunday they will have an ad in the news paper for some openings there, so I am going to put my app in and see want happens.
Oh, I going for yard foreman (lol)

Full time scrap is possible but once you learn the art of scrap a good full time job to me would be the ultimate cause then your full time could pay the bills and scrap could be your good pocket money or rain day money .
Unfortunately I see often as i scrap out among people , that they get curios and often think unrealistic money is made . I am sure the guys that took the fence are seeing - yes the money was good but NOT good enough to cause one to get fired or have a report writing situation that might prevent any future advancement.

One of the things I like about scrapping after a few years is some of the craze mellows - thus one starts to ask more and not take chances . Beginning scrappers are more likely to see and grab no questions asked. I suspect those workers are not scrappers but seeing the fence then discovering the money aspect , they impulsively took you product with zero under standing of the consequences.

You are so right, well the way things are looking two more guys are about to loose their freedom over this, and that I have to sit down to write out a statement about what was said to me by them, plus I am going to ask politely if the company would reimburse me for the stuff that was stolen from me, that is if they will do that, if not, oh well, at least I asked.
But one good thing came out of this mess, they will keep my number on file so if they have any more of the chain link fence to get rid of, they will call on me.

Asking the company to accept the burden of your loss, there is no polite way of asking.

Way I see it restitution lies with the thief, submit your victim statement to the Judge presiding the case then take the time to attend the court hearing.

Sorry you got robbed, It seems to be getting worse. Some people just don't want to see you make any money even if you're working hard for it. I hope you get reimbursed. I think politeness will help.

My local yard works with me when something of mine is stolen and brought in. We have a good relationship and work with the police to catch the thieves. It pays to be an upstanding customer and be willing to work with them.
