My Scrapping Adventures In My 1966 Chevy!

Hello everyone! I Did a short Intro about myself here:

I have been reading everyone's posts and figured that Id start a thread for fun about my scrapping adventures in my 1966 chevy truck! I enjoy hot rods and classic cars and also enjoy scrapping and recycling for extra cash to either buy parts for my cars,to put gas in the tank, or just to have a little extra cash in my pocket! and figured some of you might enjoy seeing someone scrapping in a old school!

My truck is fully air bagged so I can lowride it around to carshows and around town, or air up the suspension for when im hauling heavier loads, also able to tilt the bed down to make loading heavy objects alot easier:

One thing I always to seem to be scrapping is old car parts, since ive owned a couple old cars and have stripped many rusted out cars for the parts to build or repair another car, and all my car buddys always seem to give me there unwanted parts:

theres a couple big main rivers that merge into the middle of sacramento ca, where i live and in the summer in rafting season theres always tons of cans and bottles lining the shores and stuck in the rocks from the drunken rafters throwing them in the river, and the multiple parks that are along the rivers always have trash barrels loaded with cans and bottles, so I keep two white plastic drums in the back of the truck and walk the parks and wade up and down the banks picking the cans and bottles up and fill the plastic drums up:

And i always stop at trash piles along the roads and pick the metal out of them and recently got into pallet recycling also:

I love the truck but im curious how you fit anything in the bed with a notched frame?

nice truck....i use to have one just like that only it was not lowered

I only notched the frame rail with a small notch nothind crazy like a monster notch that sticks thur the bed, I did have to raise the whole bed floor by a 1 1/2" to let the axle rest all the way into the notch without the rearend housing hitting the bottom of the bed heres some pic's:

here you can see the black bed wood is 1 1/2" higher then being flush when the tail gates open, thats the only space i lost was raising the bed .....not much this is my daily drivr and i built it so that its nice to look at but not to nice to use as a truck still:

I like how you did that alot, most people around here put huge notches in and run with either no bed floor or with them showing through the floor. A few of my friends have bagged trucks. That doesnt weaken your frame to cut it like you did and habe it so narrow? I usually see people basically putting in a notch the same width of their frame just in the shape of a "U".

Good to see someone else who uses vintage iron to scrap with! I use my '56 & '31 Fords all the time to scrap. Great looking truck BTW.

Nice ride, love them old bow ties, I run two a 84 and 79, easy to work on parts are cheap. Not much to dislike bout a sbc cept fuel mileage but stacking the load a lil taller can always makes up for it.

What motor and trany you running in that 66 ?

the c-notch i used is engineered to to be bolt on or weld on (which i havent welded it yet which strengthens it more then just bolt on) and yes it is way better then just using a "u"!! I forgot the rate of how much it weakens your frame by, but it is minimal since it has the metal plates that spand over the frame for reinforcement....theres also a similar notch to the one i used but it basically is the same notch but fully boxs both sides of the frame rail makinging it stronger then the stock frame that guys on the truck forum tow trailers, camp trailers with, but where a little too pricey for me at the moment i built my truck......

right on nice car! I wanted a 55 or 56 when i first got into old cars but ended up buying a 54.....im now on my 3rd 1954 ford feel in love with them heres some pictures of mine when it was flat black , but it is now going thur yet another set of changes,just getting done shaving the door handles frenching headlights and tail lights and getting ready to get it chopped , going for a full custom build this time around:

No kidding i love the sbc for the parts but they get thirsty if you put to much foot into them!

IM running a remand small block chevy 350 v8,rebuilt turbo 350 with a shift kit,rebuilt edelbrock 600 carb , I rewired whole truck added relays to headlight like a modern car(makes the old lighting system brighter), all new rebuilt suspension(ball joints end links idler arm etc), front sway 1 1/4" sway bar of a 70's chevy truck, rear sway bar off a camero Iroc(front and rear sway bar makes it drive like a slot car even with it riding on air bags), all new rebuilt brake system with updated dual master(non power at the moment), all new power steering setup adapted to it off a 70's chevy truck.....its basically all new or rebuilt running gear just with a old body and frame.....this is my third 60-66 chevy truck and this time i addressed all the driving issues to make it comfortable:

Well today was my first garage clean out, it was a couple of friends that are neighbors of my parents sadly the elderly lady that owened the house passed away, they called me up and said I could take anything that was recyclable in the garage or that I wanted since they need to clean the house out, I ended up taking two loads of metal , freezers,dryer,weight bench,pots and pans,metal racks, shelves,....etc....etc..got around $100 after fuel cost for a couple hours of work...also got lots of stuff i kept like hand tools,wagner hand held paint sprayer,couple bottles jacks,three computers,window a/c unit,couple yard seed spreaders, two tackle boxs full of fishing gear,three boxs of misc tools and juck to go thur, a bucket full of misc. screws nails, fasteners.....still have to go back and pick up 6 tv's and 5 computer moniters.... pretty good score!

I'm new to scraping so dont laugh at me too much but heres a picture of my tear down/sorting station I setup in my back yard, As you can see my dog "zero" is already scoping out the new stuff i brought home and figuring out what to pee on soon as im not looking LOL:o:

Even tho it was a good score I kinda felt bad going thur the stuff of the sweet old lady that used to bring me homemade pies for mowing her lawn when i lived there still.....

Nice job, but are those "suicide knobs" still legal there, their not legal here for road use. Just curious.

ya its a real working suicide knob, that with powersteering I can whip the truck with ease......and your correct its not legal here or are the blue dot's in the tail lights....I havent been messed with yet with police behind me, havent been pulled over yet for them to say anything to me about the knob yet....most the time they dont mess with older cars and with all the lil hondas and toyota's running around with custom lights on there cars i think they just dont bother unless your doing something dumb...but if they say something i figure it'll be a fix it ticket at most......what can I say Im a rebel! they do make some cheap non functioning suicide knobs that you can run just for looks

Been doing some Craigslist washer and dryer /metal item pick ups and helped a buddy clean his garage and side yard got some recyclable items for helping there also....but today I came across a brush pile at the end of the drive way and laying on top I found a old Murray nassau 3 speed bike everything seems to work fine,just needs some tires and tubes and new chain....checked with a couple buddys that work at a bike shop and they said not worth much but if i post it for $50-80 on craigslist I should get it with no problem! Its the same colors as my truck I might just keep it and clean it up a bit and haul it around to the car shows I go to just for fun:

Well today I took in my load of metal, wire, Recyclables cans,bottles I had accumulated from breaking every thing down washers dryers,tv,computers etc:

Then went back to the house where I pulled two loads of metal out previously and came home with about 12-13 tv's and monitors! I never scraped them before but read up on here and watched a couple youtube videos so I'm gonna give it a shot....the only part about tv's and monitors I think will be discouraging is all the left over waste after getting the wire out as of now I only have my garbage bin that I will break most of it down over a period of time, can you put the plastic casings in the recycle bin??? buddys having a curb clean up soon so might ditch alot there also....:

My dog pees on my scrap to when im not looking.
I've thought about bagging my truck to lower the tailgate for ease of loading scrap and my bike.

LOL! too funny!.....It is nice with the air bags, with the tail gate down I can also ride the riding mower right up and load it with out ramps! it does quite handys having them..
