So each ribbon cable has around 2-3 connectors on it that slide into the pins. I have about 50 lbs of ribbon cable so I guess I am going to start cutting the connectors off and getting the little pins or whatever you call them. I cracked one open and saw about a 5mm pin type thing that was gold tipped. There were 2 rows and 1 row in the middle that is not gold tipped at all and came out in a bunch. Is this what you guys recover and how much do you get per #?

same value as regular gold connectors, dont waste the time to pull pins, it is profitable to do so but not if your factoring in anything for labor costs.
I use a paper cutter to cut the whole connectors from the ribbon. Works great this method was originally posted by mechanic. Sell the ribbon as low grade wire locally and ship the connectors whole.
The problem id have buying those connectors at $2 pound is that by removing them with that method they wouldnt meet the quality id be looking for, if the excess plastic and ribbon cable was removed id have no problem paying $2.50 pound. They would possibly go as high as $4 a pound if prepped properly and sold on ebay.
In some regards, cutting off the connectors adds to the work if the eventual goal is to pull pins. By using jhilingo's method, you wouldnt have to cut off the connector. just snap off the connector ends to get to the pins and the cable is loose. Also, in my opinion, it is easier to get to the pins with the cable attached rather than holding a small connector.
its no problem bulling the pins once the cable is off, the problem is you have to pull the cable off to reveal the pins and when you do that the pins dont come out with it. In the end your left with the piece that has the pins in it, theres no way around it.
