Ebay and Paypal

So apparently paypal and ebay has changed the settings around for when you need to print out a shipping label, when selling items via ebay.com

I need to ship a laptop out, but it has to go in my own box and not a USPS box as none of them are big enough (wide enough) for the laptop.

I have the boxes, but I need to be able to enter in the dimensions and weight so I can print out the shipping label. Although, I am seeing no options at all for doing this. Just tells me to choose the USPS box that I have.

Anyone can tell me what I am doing wrong?

What you are doing wrong is using UPS! I have found Fedex to be a better option.

If you have a UPS account, you should still be able to print a label through their website and enter the correct dimensions.

Also, Ebay has been changing crap around like crazy latley, try hitting your browser's refresh button and see if it shows up.

I didn't say UPS, I said USPS. I pay for the labels via paypal.com so it comes out of the monies sent to me from my buyers.

I have tried that, but still gives me only certain options. The new ways really suck.

There are a few options in the selection that allow you to use your own box. That option does not show unless selected.

I just shipped a few things last week using Priority mail, Media mail and First Class all using my own box.

If you are shipping via USPS Priority Mail, go to your eBay page and to the item you sold. There should be a list of actions you can take, choose print shipping label. Choose USPS, and then in the 'service' drop down menu choose 'package/thick envelope' or if any dimension is over 12", choose large package. There will be boxes to input your weight and dimensions. You can also choose Parcel Post, but I normally go with Priority Mail.

You can also print labels directly from your PayPal page.

You need regional rate boxes George, they come in diff sizes. And cost less to send than medium and large flat rate boxes. Go to usps.com and order them, they are free. While you are doing your order also order the other priority mail box sizes you need, and pick up some padded flat rate envelopes, they always come in handy, not just for mailing stuff. If you mail long items pick up some of the priority mail tubes. :cool:

I shipped a netbook in a padded flat rate envelope. There is also a legal sized flat rate envelope that might be what you need depending on the screen size.

Yeah, I was able to find it. I remember it being a bit easier than having to do all of that, but perhaps it was when doing it directly from USPS.com or something.

Yeah, I was able to figure it out. Just need to go tomorrow to get 1 box for one of the laptops, and then weigh it and measure it, and I will be set. Thanks for the information.

Thanks for the information. I will go on there right now and order some. For tomorrow though, I will just have to go to the store and buy a box, because they need to be shipped tomorrow, and the boxes take like almost 2 or more weeks to get here for some reason.

Dont go buy a box. Just go to your local post office and get the box you need. They should have all the different sizes in stock. Also unlike medium and large flat rate boxes the regional boxes have a weight limit. So dont go thinking you can ship 40 pounds of ram in a regional A box.

Well with my post office, if you don't have a shipping label in your hand to show them, you gotta pay for the box.

Unless I am wrong about that. I know the first time I shipped something, I called in to see if they had the box in stock, and they told me the price of it. So, when I went in, I had the label in my hand, and cash, and they handed me the box and didn't have to pay. So granted I am a bit confused on that.

yea, i do love the regional rate boxes though, they fill a niche for small light weight items

Yes GEO you have to pay for the non priority boxes. But you should be able to find a priority box to fit that laptop. Then you dont have to pay for the box.

I shipped a box to Canada last week. Had it packed in a small priority box. It was gonna be over $23, less than a pound. She brought me another box, identical in every way, right down to the "priority mail", except, the other box had "flat rate" in the mix. It was $12 postage. Then she wrapped some tape around it with "flat rate" printed all over it. Go figure. I tossed the wasted box

aha, they're taking all the small stuff and going door to door. The others are getting the big packages eh?

As a mail man I can tell you why they are loosing billions every year. MANAGEMENT. Quick example. They have overtime lists none, own, 10 hour, and 12 hour. I am on the none list. In order for them to work me overtime they need to work the 12 hour people 12 hour first then the 10 hour people 12 hours then they can make me work overtime. But instead of doing it that way per the contract they just give me overtime on another route and dont work the people who want the overtime the full 12 hours. So then the union files a grievence and get me paid another 50 percent for the time they made me work and the person on the list gets paid 150% for not even doing the work. All because management couldnt follow the contract. I think my office paid out like $80,000 or more last year for this contract violation alone. Now take that nationwide (32724 post offices) and I bet its close to billions of dollars.

PTS, you would not believe what I walked into at the local Post Office, I actually thought I had stepped back in to the middle ages, and would not exactly been surprised to have seen the Pony Express ride up.
