Went to pick up a load of computers, monitors and telecom equipment at a local manufacturer. The manager showed me what he said I could take including everything that was on this big table. Spent 1 1/2 hours loading this stuff. When I got home I started scrapping the computers and put aside the good stuff for ebay which included 2 touch screen flat panal monitors. 2 days later I get a call that he wanted the monitors back. So I told him I will bring it in this week. I guess it would have been a disaster If I would have sold them or scrapped before he called. Has this ever happened to anyone before?

Sounds like you both got lucky on that deal ; )

A disaster? Hardly. He said you could have them and then recanted. Why?

Maybe didn't realize that the good ones were on the table also,,,Till they had nothing to hook to their computer,,lol

I would say he was LUCKY and should have offered you something (even out of his own pocket) Since he oversaw the entire removal personally, I'd say you are giving him a gift of giving them back.. and poundigity24 is right.. Karma will hit ya back in a good way!

I would be falling all over myself to correct the problem, returning them next week don't cut it.

Never happened to me but in your defence, if you had sold them that would have been his problem. Your time, gas, and effort is not free and you should had him pay for the monitors.

This happens more than you think. I had a customer call me a few weeks after picking up some laptops asking if I still had a specific one. They do managed IT services, and one of their customers thought they left an SD card in one of the laptops. Luckily I still had it and was able to get it back to them.

If someone gives you the wrong stuff, that is their problem. You don't want to be a jerk about it, but they should come and get them from you.

Maybe I am wrong, but I feel like a little bit of my time, gas, and effort would be worth keeping a customer (especially one who was giving me free stuff) happy. He may not tell many people about the scrapper who brought back those monitors, but he would have told everyone about the time he had to buy new monitors because the scrapper(by no fault of his own) took the wrong ones.
Yes the manager gave them to him, but everyone makes mistakes.The only thing I would have done different would have been to take them back that day or the next at the latest. After all next time it could be you who makes the mistake...

the person may or may not tell people that you fixed his mistake, but he will probably recommend you and keep your number for next time

i am amazed how often this happens usually the i forgot my xyz in the trunk of scrapped car or i forgot my ezpass i do what i can to make it right when i can

Got an email this evening from the manager saying that when I come back with his stuff he has some goodies for me. Karma is coming my way.

I would be more than happy to give them back as well. All that free stuff? You bet. Besides it just being the right thing to do, it will pay back in spades. I would take him some coffee and donuts as well when I took them back.

In junk removal they better call me pretty quick before my truck gets to the dump, which it is going directly to from their house. I have had two customers call me and ask "Do you still have x?" and they were asking hours too late.

OTOH, if they are asking about something I recognized had some value, it may have gotten set aside to be donated or sold, in which case I will gladly give them their item back.

Kudos to you! I agree you did the right thing. People do not forget things like because they know they are dealing with a solid person with good morals. It does stink you had to loose some time and gas, but look what happened. He's already got some more stuff for you. You also represented us scrappers well!

I would have returned them also. As mentioned above karma was on my mind and as I read on it did come into play.
