Newbie Question about Motors

I am VERY new to the scrapping business and I have been looking over different posts and such but I am curious motors such as out of a dishwasher or dryers etc if it contains copper winding I should split the copper from the motor and do what with the other metal from the motor throw it in the pile of the corresponding metals? If it contains aluminum winding is it better to just sell it as an electric motor and not touch the windings? This maybe a newbie question but I am in need of information have about 20 some of motors with both copper and aluminum windings.

Not worth the time to crack em open! most yards right now will give you 30 cents a lb. for motors/transformers and let me tell you it takes a lot of work to open them up. In my experience you would not make enough money to make it worth the time and effort.

I split the copper ones, not the aluminum though. They're easily distinguished, the aluminum looks like bloated copper, and scratches into the aluminum color easily

PS. I toss the steel parts in with short iron

Ditto ditto & be carefull with the stainless steel edges. Thats about the only thing I cut myself on. Just as sharp as razor blades.

Wear good gloves with some arm protection & never wrench or pull at something. Most dishwashers shells are stainless with some non-stainless thrown & welded in. I get about $12 each shell, but its hard work & really DANGEROUS.

Actually I wouldn't reccomend doing it to anyone else. Get the motor & wiring & copper, maybe sell the control panel on ebay as they break often.

Like I said not worth it. Way to much work. If you put them all together you will get motor prices on your aluminum ones too and you will still have time to go find more scrap.

I once came across a dishwasher motor that had 2 windings of copper and 4 that were alum windings. The copper was red coated and the alum was more of a redish orange.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to reply, I have taken all of the opinions and as well done a little research around the forums using the handy dandy search function and have found a lot of useful information regarding the scrapping business. I am a part-time newbie scrapper just trying to learn the ropes. I apologize for any inconvenience and/or frustration caused by this thread. I have come to the conclusion that using the search function around these parts is my new best friend, can easily find my answer within a few minutes of good old reading. Brock, it is not an inconvenience nor is it frustrating. Thats what this forum is for as long as you tried to search for your answer and could not find the answer then ask the question.
