getting a car on the trailer

so I have a guy with a 94 integra that has been parted out. he told me it's basically only the shell, which kind of leaves me wondering how the heck I'm going to get it on a trailer. my only thought is to get it off the jack stands and drag it on, couple problems there. first I don't have a winch so dragging it might be a problem. second I don't know if the guy will let me drag it since it is in his garage. also with it being stripped how much can I expect it to weigh? curb weight is around 2500 but only being the shell I can't see more then a few hundred pounds there. also since I found it was not a complete car I'm thinking I need to charge to make it worth my time, I don't deal with cars that much and don't want to hit him to high with a removal fee.
maybe liberty can help me out here I know you deal with cars a lot ;)

Flip it over onto the trailer. I used a pallet stacker to do that once, but a pulley setup would work.

If its in his garage how does he move it?

I have a winch and I just drag them on

For something like this, I would charge at least $50.00 to cover my time
and that is a town within 15 mins drive

I dont believe he does move it, thats why he wants me to get it. I'm kind of thinking it might be light enough to muscle around, I guess I will try to get as close as possible then pull it somehow

Should have sub frames under it, maybe??

simple 2'x2' squares of plywood with 2x4 reinforcement on the bottom with decent casters are what i use for situations like this wratchet strap them to each corner of the vehicle and roll it out and on.
Made a set of 4 of these a couple years ago and still can't believe how many times they were the perfect solution to a problem. use whatever size you need to get them on your ramps works best on hard surfaces so if it is dirt bring a sheet or 2 of plywood pick your casters by the weight u want to move

Nice Tip NHscrapman!! I can only assume that this dude pulled the car in whole and has slowly chipped away at it until he is now in the situation he is in.. People floor me sometimes, create huge issues and then expect YOU to work miracles.

I pulled a car once that the guy had wedged between 2 other cars, I was trying to back the truck and trailer up a hill on his driveway, in the snow and ice, he had a tree and another vehicle on the other side which didn't allow me to whip back enough with the rig and not hit the tree, or other vehicle. I ended up having to drive through his yard, around the garage between the house and the garage. If he would have just moved the 1 car that started and let me have a clear pull in- it would have been much nicer and easier for me. But people don't think that way.. I should have gotten it for free at that point!

I've dropped the trailer in front of several things and used a long 3/4 nylon rope tied to it, and used the truck to drag it up into the trailer, using flat cart dollies as NH suggested or sometimes just a loading ramp. Make sure the trailer wheels are chocked, or that the trailer jack is secure enough to hold the trailer in place

I just use my hf 9000# to load cars and other things too.

get a 2ton come a long, and cranker on if you don't have a winch, i used to carry and chain hoist before i got a winch but i always carry a come a long in case my winch is having a hard time i can work them both. paid 40 bucks for mine.

i had this one car last summer when my winch was down. little toytoa hatch back 4wd. tranny was lock up in gear, i yanked it out with my truck, it was violent. i wish i had a 1000lbs in my box for traction, after 2 hours i ended up having to block the front end up just higher then my trailer and give her a tug with my truck it would fall off the blocking but jump 6 inches closer at a time. the cat wasn't worth f all i maybe broke even. this customer had two cars to be removed the first one i drove on the trailer...best kind.

thanks for the help! I considered the whole build dollies with casters and pull it on with my truck but wasn't sure if that was smart. guess I'll wait and see what kind of place its in and decide what I want to do

cummins we use our ratchet straps the same way, when our battery gets low it releases just enough pressure for the winch to go another foot.

big dog, we use floor jacks for wheels when we need wheels, the dollies would work fine to until you got to the ramps, take your floor jack and jack the car up as far back as you can and back the trailer under the car until you reach the jack, then jack thefront of car on the trailer up and back up some more, the jack will roll on the trailer and the rear of the car will hold it steady, once you back up like this you will only have to use a come a long for the last couple feet.

free tip, you guys that work as a team, on those cars hard to load you can put your truck in reverse(idle) while your winching, if your by yourself you can use neutral but its not as good. its kinda hard on your ramps but the truck rolling backwards will have the winch only pulling the front wheels up the trailer as the rear wheels will be staying in the same spot.

Edit, also, on these cars with no wheels, you really need the jack with you all the time, because they always hang up at the back of the trailer

If you bought or made dollies for this job you would be able to use them for other moves in the future. I believe you can get some at harbor freight.

They should at LEAST provide a RESORT for the SMF Convention

For vehicles/equipment that are without wheels or can't roll freely for whatever reason I use round fence posts and use them underneath the car or whatever as rollers. Sort of like how the Egyptians used to move big stone blocks for the pyramids and such.

Acura integra last 4 years running that being said if it is a shell you might wanna cross your t's and dot your i"s the very first stolen vehicel i ever accidentally bought was an acura integra no motor tranny wheels or interior just thorwing that out there

now to get to your ? take a jack place lift and place pvc pice under the chasiis as it rolls up the ramps move the pipe in accordinance to where the car is you"ll want for peices front rotors back rotors 1 in the middle and a travel pipe kinda like moving a shed hope this helps that plus comealong will move anything under 6 k lbs
