score?
bought a 99 blazer for $400 today, guy just put a set rebuilt heads on it and wants to sell it because it is making a ticking sound in the top end, my determination is it just needs a valve adjustment, score?
$3,000 worth of parts/scrap or 2 hours of work and resell it for $1,800

1999 Chevy blazer runs and drives I think a rod may be going out. It does make a slight ticking noise but I can still drive it. It's white, power everything, ac works. Has heated side mirrors but one is broken. 500.00

hek adjust em and find out ; ) there's ways of getting closer to the sound like using a piece of garden hose to listen in different areas

yep its a score, ive dropped suvs down to 250 to 300 with metal being down, but that's still a good buy

Could also be a piston slap but that still won't sound like a rod.
Or maybe check the oil and see if there is any gummed up. If there is then you might have a slugged up lifter.

Some exhaust leaks make a tick that make it sound like a worse case scenario.

yes im planning on a compression test and a valve adjustment at the least, maybe just a can of seafoam will get it to quiet down
