New small flatrate shipping box from USPS

What the H-E-double-hockeysticks is up with this????

I don't expect much from a pseudo-governmental CharlieFox organization, but whoever the *** approved the release of that steaming pile of dung should be shot.

The thing will not hold its shape long enough to be molded into anything remotely resembling a frickin box... and forget about it not flopping apart when you attempt to put something into it.

Utterly FRICKIN useless.

So now instead of simply packing up my shipments today & dropping by & shipping tomorrow, I get to go see if they have any of the old style of small flatrates (and stock the hell up if they do), then come home & pack them, and probably not get them shipped til frickin Monday cuz I got plans Saturday.

Thanks for the heads up. I was not aware that they had changed them. Guess I better stop by the post office tomorrow and stock up if they have the regular ones.

One time I grabbed a batch of medium boxes that had been glued wrong. Completely unusable.

Thank you very much for the tip on this. I use at least one of those per day.

I will be stocking up right now as a matter of fact (only a couple blocks away) since they always stock up by the automated shipping machine.

Do you know if the size is different? Or are they just crappier boxes?

Size appears to be the same, but they've ""improved"" them with these perforated sides, apprently to allow for different sizing/shaping, but the end result is an unstable MESS.

I just ordered a batch from USPS.com... hopefully they're the old style, but I'll be looking at a coupla POs tomorrow to grab some if they have them.

It looks like you just grabbed the wrong box. This is just regular priority mail...I have some of these from last year. It would say small flat rate box on it if it was a replacement. There are actually a whole bunch of priority mail boxes that you can get. Most of them aren't available at the post office usually.

There's even a normal priority box that is just a smidge bigger than priority flat, I think this one might be called the dvd box or something like that.

Well, anyway...... the box I pictured is absolutely useless. Unless it folds a helluva lot better when you're actually wrapping it around a DVD case, which kinda makes sense, now that I think about it & look closer at it.

So word to the wise, I guess, is pay attention to what you're getting when you go to restock.

I slip the Small Flat Rate Box $5.10 into the FRE $4.95 (Flat Rate Envelope) and save .15 Cents each time

Using Click N Ship you would save 10 Cents each time $5.15 / $5.05

Thats good thinking , have to keep it in mind for future use. A wise old man once told me a penny saved is a penny earned easy.

I ship between 10 - 20 a week >> so it adds up

cardboard a hot glue gun and a knife is all you need to make your own boxes, all of the flat rate boxes can be run as regular priority mail

i like the padded flat rate envelopes over the paper ones and the small flat rate boxes, $5.70 to ship

If they say Flat Rate you have to pay the Flat Rate associated with that size box
If you pay less based on weight and are caught >> Postage for the difference between what you paid and what the flat rate is will be charged to the receiver as Postage due

i have recieved a permanent waiver on the board game boxes from my local post office, some idiot ordered 20 cases of them and didnt pick them up, i told them id take them if i can run them as regular priority they said yes and i can run all other flat rate boxes as regular priority providing that they are weighed/metered

i was given permission from the manager, i have run over 100 boxes like this now and none have been returned or marked insufficient postage

Nice of your local PO to do that for you
But I don't believe they have the authority to do that
What are your plans when the receiving Post office notices you paid for weight and bills the receiver for the postage due?

The regular Priority Mail rates are often cheaper than using the flat-rate packaging. USPS offers over a dozen non-flat-rate free Priority Mail boxes, too. To save money by using the LARGE FRB rather than Zone-based Priority Mail rates, you must be shipping more than:

3 pounds to Zone 8
4 pounds to Zone 7
5 pounds to Zone 6
6 pounds to Zone 5
12 pounds to Zone 3
17 (yes, Seventeen) pounds to Zone 1 or 2
