Leaving Contrainers at Scrap Accounts

Hi, I'm been a curbside scrapper for a little over 3 years, and I've done very good for myself. Over the last year, there I have started picking up restaurant equipment. I've worked with franchises for McDonalds, Subway, Pizza Hut, and 2 other local burger joints. And now, I'm interested in entering small, local, businesses that I can pick up from on a more regular basis, like auto shops, and such.

I have quite a lot of old 35gal. wheeled trash carts and 18 gallon recycling bins that I received from a trash company, and I am getting ready to purchase stickers to place on the sides with my company name and number.

My questions include, "How good is the return on leaving containers at local businesses and certain residents? How should I go about rolling out? Have you done what I want to do and wish you could have done it differently?

I use full size sheet labels and print at home. Put them on 55 gallon drums then spray with clear coat to protect the label...works pretty good, is cheap and I can change what it says when needed.

I have 4x4ft produce bins aka gaylords at several locations. They work well just dont ask a client to sort anything or it wont make it into your bin.

I have a few accounts at local maintenance shops that I leave buckets at and it works really well. I just made a cardboard template and spay paint to put my advertising on the side. although if you plan on trying to get into auto shops you might want to get something a little bigger unless you want to stop by a couple times a week. the one auto shop i receive from usually has a crashed vehicle that they fill up and that's what gets hauled away. The other auto shops have either a 15 or 30 yard dumpster that another scrapper supplies he comes by about once a month i'm told.

I definitely like the clearcoat idea, I just need to find big labels. The carts I got have the trash company's logo melted in, so I need a large enough sticker to cover them. Aside from the company info stickers im going to buy some big METAL ONLY stickers to place on the sides and on the lid.

my target accounts are small mom and pop stores, I am a landscaper, and our shop is in a small industrial park, and that's where im looking to target first. ACME REFINING has pretty much dominated the area, but they don't service small shops, they go after the big metal machining and punching companies, and there are a lot of those. I service one small machine shop, he's got all his different metals sorted, from the steel, aluminum, carbide, he sorts it all.

My full sheet labels came from Office Depot.

If you want to paint a plastic container with your name or log, use krylon fusion spray paint. It is specially formulated to adhere to plastic.

Oh, and put "this bin and it's contents are property of "insert name""

I bought the full sheet labels, got my logo and number printed. put them on my first container, and delivered it to an auto shop down the street from my work. Picked up twice already. Got about 500lbs in rotors from them so far. Im stickering up more carts still. here is a pic

Glad that worked out for you...I have some outdoors so I clear coat them and it helps to make them last. Also clean the surface that I stick it on to with denatured alcohol for max adhesion.
